I would report her to animal protective services (or whatever you call it).  She should not be allowed to adopt another animal.

That’s absolutely horrible, I’m so sorry for your loss!  That’s actually animal cruelty.  Is there some agency they can be reported to (or threatened with) if they attempt to get another rabbit?  They obviously should not be pet owners.  So tragic!

I am so sorry to hear that. Hearing stories about animals being treated this way always brings me to tears. I’m so glad that it at least had you to care for it and it was hopefully happy when it was with you. I don’t think I could handle living with this person anymore :/

@leecy87:  Ugh, NOTHING makes me angrier…in the world…then irresponsible and careless pet owners!!  Pets do NOT have a voice per se, so watching their reactions to things is so important.  Obviously, when my dog has certain looks, or is trembling, I know she is scared, etc.  Whatever, too little too late for this poor rabbit.

I think, if you feel you can, be honest with her in telling her that you feel she mistreated her pet over and over again, and that common sense tells MOST – not all – to never leave anything, of which is alive, in car in too hot temps, or too cold temps, etc, etc, etc.  It probably wont help, but maybe…just maybe you will feel better getting it off your chest, as a way of defending the late rabbit, and shed a bit of light onto her – as a way to educate?!  Again, so you have a peace of mind 🙁

……… What. A. F*cking. Bitch.  Did she get another one?  Because like hell if I’d let that fly.  If she gets another rabbit, document it’s living conditions and threaten to call animal services if she does not take better care of the rabbit.  If she doesn’t change, then actually call animal services.

Poor little rabbit.

@leecy87:  This is so terrible. I’m SO SO SO SO SORRY!!!

The death of a pet is a terrible thing to experience – especially such a horrific one. I hate it when people neglect animals as if they are inanimate objects. I hate it when people don’t teach children how to treat animals. They are NOT tonka toys! 🙁

Poor baby. (((HUGS))) to you!

Aww that is so so sad. I am so sorry. At least take comfort in knowing you contributed tremendously to the happiness and well being of this animal while it was in your care.

Where I live it is not uncommon to hear of people calling the police when they see a dog left in a hot car for too long. I have even heard of people/police breaking into the car to free/save the animal! It is animal cruelty no doubt about it. Sad. People need to understand a pet comes with the responsibility of taking care of another living being, it is not just something for your amusement.

That’s HORRENDOUS animal cruelty!!  OMG.  I can totally understand why you’re upset.  If your roommate decides to get another pet and she abuses that one too, then I’d REALLY encourage you to report her to animal cruelty/neglect.  I have a neighbor who leaves their labradoodle in their backyard 24/7, regardless if it’s 100 degrees outside or 10 degrees, and hardly ever takes him out for a walk.  The dog is so desperate to get out, he rams his body against the fence when the family is not home, trying to break it down.  I’ve called animal control on them several times, because it broke my heart hearing his screams (I never knew dogs could make that kind of noise) and seeing the blood on his shoulders/neck from constantly ramming into the wire fence.  I haven’t seen or heard their dog for a week now so I think he got taken away.  The family is actually really nice (they have 4 kids) but I cannot stand how they abuse & neglect their pet.  I agree that animals cannot speak & stand-up for themselves, so it’s up to us conscientious pet owners/animal lovers to protect and speak-up for animals who are horribly mistreated.
