Ok someone help me here because this seems VERY odd. We are getting a new setting for my diamond anyway but now i’m trying to see if i should be avoiding buying a ring somewhere or upgrade metals. Gold doesn’t just expand… or does it?
I have a solitaire ring. It was sized 2 or 3 times because Jared messed up. (purchased elsewhere) It was ensured twice that it was indeed a 5 3/4. But it isn’t as snug as it first was. It rarely ever fits snug at all anymore. Actually it annoys me too much to even wear anymore. I take it off a lot – half the time cus its just too big and annoying. We were shopping for settings this weekend and I asked them to check the size. It’s a 6. Really are you sure?! Yep its def a 6.
10 months ago it was a 5 3/4 and now its a 6. Does 14k white gold really expand? The inside wear away or something? I could see after 20 years but 10 months?! Its a fairly thin band – not strong enough cus its so thin? Did the resizing weaken the metal?

Weird. Makes me wonder if it really was a 5.75.

No, it did not get bigger. It sounds like it was either sized incorrectly or they sized it differently (some size from edge, some from middle). Or they rounded up instead of doing a 1/4 size. This is not the fault of the gold. 14k is quite hard/durable.

@Kate0558: i swear the same thing is happening to me! I had mine sized down twice, and it got perfectly over the summer. The last few weeks it has been feeling really big… almkst like it will fall off- ahh! Mine is also white gold. I’m wondering if it has something to do with winter, but it feels big all the time, when I’m outside or when I’m running in the heated basement. Hmm let me know when you solve this one!!

@ivoryowl: Fingers are definitely narrower in the winter. Wait till the weather warms to see if your ring has actually changed size.

I agree.. cold weather will shrink your fingers. Mine falls off during the wintertime and fits perfect in the summer
