This is my first time posting, but I've been lurking on these boards for several weeks now. All of these posts have been so helpful to me so I wanted to post the results here.
Some background: I've been dating my boyfriend (now fiance!) for about 6 years. We've known that this relationship was heading towards marriage for a long time, but in the past six months the plans have become more concrete. Then in January I found out that I had gotten a wonderful research scholarship that unfortunately means I will be out of the country and away from my fiance for two years (starting this April). Well that put wheels in motion! We wanted to get engaged before I left so now I had to find a ring.
I don't wear much jewelry and I've never worn rings so I had to start from scratch to figure out what I like. That's where this site came in. It was great to look at so many beautiful rings to help me figure out what I wanted. But then came the catch. As I was leaving soon and we hadn't had time to save up for a ring, it needed to be inexpensive. Really inexpensive. The max we were willing to pay was $300 (I'd much rather spend money on visiting my honey over the next few years then on my bling!).
I ended up finding my ring at a wonderful antique shop, with the help of my fiance's mother (who is an antiques dealer herself). We went in and I tried on every single ring they had, narrowed it down to two, and then came back with my boy on the weekend to make the final choice. I adore my ring, it strikes the right balance between small, simple, and wearable (important to me) and still "special." If any of you in the Boston area are looking for any sort of jewelry (they had gorgeous things!) I recommend Marika's Antiques (130 Charles Street, Boston). My FMIL says that they are very reputable and will be truthful and honest with you.
I hope you enjoy these pics of my ring and thanks to everyone who has posted rings here before, you really helped me out! Now comes the hard part, our long-distance relationship, but at least I have a beautiful ring that I can wear always to remind me of him.
