Hi bees. I wrote a post yesterday about how I kept changing my mind about my engagement ring WHILE IT WAS IN TRANSIT from the jeweler we ordered it from. (http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/i-keep-changing-my-mind-about-my-ring#axzz2WfSYuRGR) I knew I wanted a ruby, but I started to think maybe I’d prefer a halo. When the ring arrived last night, I followed the advice of a few of you and let FI make the final decision, since I knew I’d never be satisfied (this is what sucks about being a perfectionist!)
While I completely disagree with him that halo rings are “garish” and “gaudy” (it actually insulted me when he said that, because I think they’re so vintage and glam), I have to say that seeing the look on his face when he saw my ring on my finger made the decision we made worth it. It’s a simple, understated 6mm natural cushion cut ruby surrounded by round and marquise diamonds on either side. It’s not big, it’s not flashy, but it’s my ring, and it signifies our love, and I’m very happy. I’m already looking at diamond wedding bands and looking forward to upping the bling factor!
The only pics I have so far, I took with my iphone, so apologies for the quality!

Ruby is my birthstone and I do love it. Your ring is gorgeous – congratulations!!

@womanofsubstance: Thanks! It’s both of our birthstones as well (we’re both July babies with back-to-back birthdays) and has always been my favorite gemstone.

@lululee40: Oh, there will be more! lol. I can’t wait to take some more pics in natural sunlight so I can catch the sparkle of the diamonds to either side of the ruby. 🙂

It’s lovely. Congratulations! Rock your gemstone with pride!

It looks perfect on you! The ruby is definitely taking center stage. 🙂

It’s beautiful! And perfect! I think a halo might’ve distracted from the beauty of the natural ruby. A sparkly diamond band will complement it perfectly!

I think it looks much better without a halo! It’s gorgeous.

@btothez: That’s exactly what my mom said, too! I have nearly a year and a half to wait for the sparkly diamonds, though!
