I’ve gotten “engaged” to two different dresses in the past 3 weeks… nearly ordering Kitty Chen’s Ginger then two days ago I nearly ordered Enzoani Formosa… but my heart still pined for something more. I didn’t think I’d find one on time (to order, that is); I scoured the internet searching for a picture of some inspiration or anything… but nothing made me excited.
I discovered after the first dress appointments that I work much better solo – so I have been making appointments and going by myself the last few times. Walking in motivated, determined… no “playing dress up” or “lets try that on for fun” or “gotta try this one for mom’s sake”… I was there to find my wedding dress.
So I made a last minute appointment at my favorite bridal shop in Seattle (the place I found the Formosa). During my previous appointment I was encouraged to try on this one dress and I refused – thinking it was completely outside of what I was looking for… but yesterday the consultant *insisted* I try it “for her”. AND I GOT IT! No “let me go to lunch and think about it” or “let me send a pic to my MOH” or anything else. I jumped up and down on the run way and yelled “Let’s do it!”
And the best part about shopping by myself (other than finding THE dress) is that I get to keep it a SECRET! I am not showing ANYONE or even giving hints until the day my Maid/Matron of Honor has to learn to do the bustle. So for the next 5 months I get to have this private love affair with my gown… no input from anyone, no “suggestions” and not even any “ooh so prettys”. It’s my own little personal joy. Yippeeeee!

I love this idea! And I have a dress that I got right after getting engaged, but I am thinking of getting a new one and maybe doing what you are doing and keep it a secret! 🙂 thanks for the great idea!

@LoHall: Congrats on the dress! Will you be sharing a pic with us or keeping it secret? 😉
I also enjoyed shopping by myself too. I tend to need alone time to process, so not having anyone around to sway me one way or another really helped.

I did the same thing! My BMs and Mother-In-Law are expecting a completely different dress. I can not wait to see there faces when I put on my real dress. He he!

LOL I love it!
I hear ya…there is something about others opinions that can def make you get the wrong dress for you. I shopped the last time by myself as well,…I knew what I wanted, and I found THE dress by doing so. Good for you! 🙂

No pics here either! But mainly because my Maid/Matron of Honor knows my handle and will be searching – she’s already been talking about how drunk she’ll need to get me this weekend to show her pics… (So I’ve hidden them and deleted them all from my phone!)
@MrsAgainstTheGrain I totally am considering just “giving” them another dress to look at while I keep the real one a secret but I am worried they’ll start in with the input about “those Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses don’t match your dress!” or share their other opinions!
I always thought it was a little weird when people decide not to share the name of their baby until after the birth but now I think I understand… though you love your family and friends, you want to be resolute in your decision without their input sometimes. Plus, I love having this secret! The only person I tell all my secrets to is my fiance and since he definitely can’t know about the dress – there’s no reason to tell anyone at all!

@LoHall: Good for you for picking out your dress on your own! That way you can surprise everyone not just your fiance! LOL 🙂
