- Wedding: September 2013
Hey bees! Since my wedding has been over for two weeks now, and I have some pictures back, I wanted to share a little recap of our day.
Back when I got engaged (in August 2012), I knew I wanted to get married in the fall, and I wanted to have a long engagement in order to spread out the cost and have some time to plan. I’m SO glad I chose a fall wedding. The weather was absolutely perfect. It was basically summertime during the day and fall in the evening — great weather!
I’m so glad I went the mismatched route with the bridesmaids dresses. The girls were so comfortable alll evening and they all looked great. I started the morning out by writing a letter to my husband-to-be (and a separate to-do list — haha), which I’m glad I did. It allowed me a minute to reflect on what I was about to do. Then the fun started! My BFF and I headed to the venue, I texted my FI that the coast was clear to come home (we slept separately the night before), and I immediately handed my phone to my sister. I didn’t see it again until after my ceremony.
Giving my phone away was hands down the best thing I did. When I got it back, there were a ton of texts with questions, but everything had miraculously gotten done without my help, and I spent the day quietly with my bridesmaids, getting my makeup done, getting dressed and toasting with my ladies.
Before I knew it, it was time for the first look! I know a lot of people are traditionalists when it comes to seeing their groom for the first time, but both my husband and I agree that the first look was the BEST thing we did! We were both so nervous prior to it, but once we finished the first look and formal photos, we were relaxed and ready to just do this thing!
Not only did the first look allow us to calm our nerves, but it also allowed us to get right to the party after the ceremony. We had the ceremony and reception in the same place, and although there were a few ceremony hiccups, none of it mattered. The ceremony was so beautiful and meaningful.
After pictures and before the ceremony, my bridesmaids and I headed up to the hotel room that my groom had reserved for us, toasted to what was about to happen and just had fun:
Everything ended up going really well. I say it was “perfect” — but it wasn’t! Tons of things didn’t go according to plan, but it didn’t matter at all. We had so much fun. The food was amazing, and the cake was so lovely:
Luckily, I was able to weed through all of the photos because my photographer is a friend, so I weeded through and now I’m just waiting for them to be edited. What a great day!
