My sister is ridiculous…or else I am.

Hell no, you aren’t being rude. There’s no rule that says an entire family has to come as a job lot! Also, you have very pertinent reasons for inviting that particular brother.

You’re renting the cottage, you get to decide who you’d like to share it with. It’s unreasonable for your sister to expect that you invite everyone, especially considering they have kids. Sounds a tad entitled.

It’s not exactly a (whole) “family” vacation when ONE sibling is invited along.  She’s silly.

@MrsPanda99:  No, you aren’t being rude at all. I could see someone commenting if you had invited all of your siblings and their families except for one, but common… They should be able to see (and understand) where you are coming from here.

No. You’re not wrong. Your sister is being silly. You can all plan a full family vacation if you want, but you’re under no obligation to invite ANYONE on your vacation, let alone your whole family.

Sounds like your sister wants a mini vacation where she isn’t footing the bill for the accommodation. She’s being rude. Make a joke about it being the “un-married couples” weekend away from everything.

@MrsPanda99:  No you are not wrong at all! It is totally fine to spend some of your time with some siblings and not others. Sorry your sister is getting all hung up about it. How often do you see her? I would make some separate plans to see her!

Nope, you’re not being ridiculous at all! She is.

It sounds like something my FSIL would say.

@MrsPanda99:  Wow, seeing all relatives at least once a month takes up a lot of time! You are a dedicated family member!

I guess I can see why she might be slightly upset but it’s not all that bad.  Personally I think it’s one of those things where it would just have made more sense for her to let it go.

@MrsPanda99:  I don’t think you’re rude. But on the flipside in my family my 3 siblings and I are BFFs lol. Seriously. We hang out together all the time, but not always with the whole group. If DH and I were going on a mini vacation and invited one sibling (& their family) i think the others would be a little hurt. lol Not saying i would expect them to stay with us, but giving them the option to rent out a place for the weekend is prob what i would have done in my family.
