I saw it today actually....
I LOVED IT. Cried the whole way... but loved the story and the whole meaning behind it.
Damn those girls are good actresses. Bring lots of tissues... my eyes are still puffy
I really want to see this movie! I'll have to wait until I have a girl to go with. Something tells me Mr. M won't be up for this one.
I didn't read the book, didn't even know there was one! I agree, Mrs. Flamingo, we went to the bathroom after to clean ourselves us and you could totally tell who else had just seen it, lol! We had a guy in there watching the movie, too, and he was also quite misty-eyed!
I read the book and thought it was amazing. I was told the endings are different between the two. I am afraid to see the movie because I find that they are never as good as the book!
I haven't seen it yet, but I can't wait to! =) I absolutely LOVED the book (Jodi Picoult is AMAZING), and I cry every time I watch the trailer.
i really want to see it. really bad. i think i'm going to love it and cry like a baby!
:( After reading a summary for it, I don't think I can handle watching that right now. It sounds like it is a really good book though.
My sister has leukemia..... I was 100% match, but she is not well enough...... I would NEVER watch it. Read the beginning of the book and had to put it down.
As my hubby says, we have enough REAL LIFE issues .....
just my choice
the book was a tearjerker, too. i haven't seen the movie because i know the ending is completely different from the book (i know the ending) and i loved the book too much. i'm going to wait for dvd.
oh lilli... get the book!!! im not a fan of the writer but i read this book on the plane home and i was sobbing.... SOBBING in my seat! thats why im hestant to see the movie but geez it was a good read!
@Latoya... the ending is different?????????
I read the book years ago and then saw the movie. I personally didn't like the movie as much. Without giving too much away, they changed the ending in the movie completely, which I didn't like. Also, I thought the movie was too slow moving, there were SO many musical montages where nothing really happened. I thought the strength of the book was the characters and their story--I just didn't feel that in the movie.
I did think that Cameron Diaz did a really good job in the movie. It was different to see her in a dramatic role and I think she acted her little butt off.
I was lucky enough to be invited to a preview of the movie. I had read the book before going since I had been doing quite a bit of traveling and I had time. The book was SO MUCH BETTER than the movie. The movie left out two HUGE plot lines that I think would have really added to the movie. Because some plot lines were left out of the moive, I think that those who haven't read the book yet really should. Oh, and I just hated that they changed the ending! I knew that it would be different though. The same guy that directed "My Sister's Keeper" directed "The Notebook" and he changed the ending of that one too. :(
I thought it was a great movie with a strong message. I haven't read the book yet, but my SIL bought it and I'm going to read it after she's done to see how different it really is.
Jessie- I completely agree with you on Cameron Diaz. It was so great to see her in a different role than just playing the goofy blonde! It shows you she really is a great actress, and I kind of hated her character throughout the movie!
I agree, the actors did a great role, and it was refreshing seeing Cameron Diaz in a mother role.
I thought I would have a hard time adjusting, but on the contrary... she was great!
I haven't seen it, and haven't read the book - but know all about both! and wanna see it!
I heard the author was actually quite upset that they changed the ending in the movie, she said that she made the ending in the book for a reason and for it to be changed was kind of a slap in the face...
Yep, Chantellamus, the author, Jodi Picoult was very upset with the changing of the ending. She's made a lot of comments about it and I belive she has some stuff up on her website about it. I guess that's what happens when you sell the rights for your book? Too bad, I actually liked the book ending a lot better.
I, too, am afraid to see the movie because I know they changed the ending. And also afraid that I will sit in the theater bawling. I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD. I heard Cameron Diaz was really good and I just love Alec Baldwin in anything.
I'm a huge Jodi Picoult fan ... I've even met her! I went to a book reading of hers for 19 Minutes (another really great book) ... and she was just as wonderful in person!
Ok - I read the book, and it's sad and tragic and I'm sure very painful if you have experienced something similar in real life ... but it was an extremely well written book ... and I heard they totally changed the ending (and you all have confirmed it) which bugs me. So I think I'll probably pass on the movie maybe wait til DVD.
That said, for those who havent already seen it - read the book instead! :)
I should read the book because now I'm super curious as to what the ending in the book was!
im still trying to figure out why they changed the ending in the movie... why does the movie industry think everything has to have a hollywood ending? ugghhhh - might put it on my dvd list
I don't think I'll be able to see it or read the book for quite some time. I'm with you Tampamom! My fiance has AML; it's hard enough to deal with in real life to also see it on the movie screen.
Not having read the book or seen the movie, I just hope it encourages people to donate blood, platelets and bone marrow. Maybe?
@nmlynn: my mom had a relapse of AML (was MDS before it turned into AML the first time). If you ever want to chat, feel free to message me :) And I agree that *hopefully* it will encourage people to donate more. We were donating white blood cells for my mom last month and it's heartbreaking to hear that there are other leukemia patients who need cells badly, but don't have donors. (FYI: to donate WBCs, you just have to be healthy.. not a blood match)

I got to the movies, maybe once or twice a year...but...I saw this movie last night with my mom and godmother and it was a real tear jerker! Anyone else see it? What did you think about it?
