So my FI and I are big comic book geeks. When it was time to start planning for the wedding (its not until this October) for some reason I instantly thought of his favorite web-slinger. In our group of friends, we chose our favorite Marvel heros for nicknames (totally geeky I know lol). He chose Spidey and I chose Black Cat. Why? Because she is so much cooler than Mary Jane (Sorry MJ, lol). Anyway, Spiderman and Black Cat never got married, so I going to make it happen. Unfortunately, a lot of people are looking at me crazy. I am a very offbeat individual and dances to the beat of my drum even if the music is off to say the least. Well anyway, I’m getting “You’re doing what?!!” from family and friends. They don’t get it for some reason. When I tell them that I am having a comic book inspired wedding, they think cheap, tacky and cheesy. I am a little bit of a tom boy, but very little do they know that I actually have good taste and know how to put things together in a very chic way (Or so the voices in my head tell me lol). Well ladies, please tell me what you think. What should I keep and/or toss? BTW, to make thinks weirder, I have been telling people that I am taking a decontructed view at the components of comics (Art Major). You know the lines and colors and romantics. So you are really not going to see too much of actual comic books. Well to start, I had an artist do a custom piece for me to edit into my invites. I’m not done yet, so this is what I have so far. I am actually ordering my dress from an Etsy seller today. The black dress is my MOH dress. I hope to make shoes like the ones below (fingers crossed) with Spider-man and Black Cat comics. I found these cute cufflinks that I must order. and I want to wear pearls with the dress. Hopefully it looks ok with it. Considering, this is pic heavy, I might as well throw in the tux and the hairstyle I would like. I really don’t want a viel but my FI wants to have that “moment”. After much talk, he said he could live with this one… Question. Is that too much goin on?

I think that it is a cute idea. the components that you chose are subtle and are not overpowering

@oneovakind: I like that you are incorporating something you both love but not taking the theme literal (i.e. him dressing like spiderman, lol)! I think touches here and there are the best way to do it and it seems you’re on the right track.

Well, it’s definitely off-beat. It’s not my style at all, but it’s your wedding, so you get to decide whatever theme you want!
For what it’s worth, I didn’t vote in the poll. I didn’t like either option. I get it, I just don’t particularly like it.

When I heard comic book, I am thinking that you will be wearing a superhero inspired dress and he will be wearing a spiderman shirt type of thing. I think the touches are keeping it classy and I want to see it come together!!

The shoes are pretty wicked, same with the cufflinks 🙂

I think everything you are doing is tasteful, and not taking away from the two of you and the fact it is a wedding, not a halloween party. Our wedding officiant told us some stories where people sometimes ask him to dress up like batman…no joke…and th wedding is more a theme party. It is all personal taste, but to answer your question, yup, makes sense.

I like most things, but I dont think that necklace will go with the neckline of your dress, I think some simple oversized pearl earing studs would be great.,

I think that by telling people you’re having a comic book ‘theme’ wedding does give the impression that the bridesmaids will be wearing fishnets and the groomsmen will be in lycra. Having personalised touches like you have chosen is a great idea and I really like where you’re going with it, I’d perhaps be a bit cautious of mentioning the word ‘theme’ though as it does sound cheesy, although from your pics definitely doesn’t look like it will be cheesy.

I’ll be honest, I read your post before looking at the pictures and I was a little afraid of what I would see when I scrolled down. While it isn’t my taste, I like that you kept your theme simple and did more of an “inspired by” approach rather than being literal. I think your guests will have the same reaction. Going by your description, they’ll probably be expecting something much different and it will be a pleasant surprise.

I think what you’re doing is very cool and tasteful. Though I completely understand wanting to tell people what you’re doing, my guess is that a lot of people who don’t get it aren’t even going to really pick up on this, and just see a gorgeous, classic-looking wedding. Maybe share these details more with people like that friend group, who will understand and actually get it instead of getting freaked out?

Really well done, lovely subtle ideas, but totally individual!

I’m not into MJ either. Glad you picked Black Cat. LOVE THE SHOES.
