I'm sooo sad right now, I took my STD to my photo store a few days ago (they always do an AMAZING job) to have 225 printed. The guy I spoke with said they'd do a print test to check everything before they did all of the pics, so I trusted him & he told me I could leave. I didn't understand why he'd do a print check without me, but ya know, they're pros & I had no doubts.

THEN I picked them up at the store & they printed AWFUL. Made my hair black :(. This is how it printed... (I just edited it on photoshop to show you what their version looked like):

They said it may be my computer monitor but I have a macbook pro with a HD screen (not trying to brag, but saying "it wasn't me"). This is how it looks on my screen:

I'm so SOOO frustrated by this, I prepaid for them cause they had an awesome deal where it was only around $23 for ALL photos. Even if I did get a refund, it would cost me $65 to get them re-printed but I'd never go thru them again.

So on YOUR computer monitor, does everything look ok (referring to photo on bottom)??

I'm so sorry to hear this happened. Have you tried contacting them to see if they'll fix the situation?

Yeah they definitely made them too dark!  I would speak with them again because it is not a subtle difference.

The photo on the bottom looks great...but yeah, the one on top is really really dark.  I'd go elsewhere.

    They definitely F'd up!

I would take it back and ensure they do it properly! That is just bad service!

I would even print out a copy with your home printer on normal paper just to show them that they screwed up.

I would go to Cvs and print one, print one at home and take both and the messed up ones and a flash drive with the image on it and say "Look, obviously there's a difference. I want a refund, because this was NOT my fault. The same file is on this flash drive, feel free to check it while i'm standing right here to prove it's not that dark. I really would appreciate it." And make them check it.

PS - if other people get STDs there, i'd write some negative reviews around yelp and all, too.

I left the photos there & am going back tomorrow. I'm usually not that picky, but there's a HUGE difference in the pics. Plus it kinda looks like I have a black eye. I just got really nervous that it was my computer monitor & therefore my fault & then I'd have to pay twice. But since it looks like the vote is my version is ok.

@busybride2be - Wellll thank you :)!! They were made in photoshop by my FI & I. Mostly FI cause he had more free time than I did. It took him about 20 mins. It looks like he made a 5x7 blank document, with a black background & put in the photos & then used the paintbrush tool with a cool tip to make the edges look all fun. It took lots of layers. If you're wanting something similar I could probly make one up for you :). If you're not familiar with photoshop I probly just made no sense whatsoever to you!

OMG - - I could just kick them in their junk for you!!!!

LaborOfLove suggests the best thing to do I think - - I totally agree with her. What you got is complete hogwash. I don't have a fancy computer and the bottom photo is much lighter. I mean the difference between the two isn't subtle.....

I would definitely be getting my money back, or a reprint for free! Like other posters suggested, print another copy somewhere else, or on your home printer, and show them the difference. If they don't accomodate - bad reviews all around!

yes the bottom one looks better, but colors/ brightness/darkness / tones can DEF appear different on screen, then on printed paper. (and diff printers all print out differently) BUT He should've shown you a proof!!!!

you def deserve your money back though, and i'm so sorry these turned out the way they did.

UPDATE: They're reprinting them all for free & showed me a test pic that looks, well, like it should :).

I went in there this morning & showed them what it looks like on my computer & I told em about how I posted it online (here) & the pics looked fine. SOOO after testing all their computers, looking up the file, etc... apparently they were "cmyk" instead of "rgb" (the way the colors print). They were supposed to do a test print & you'd think that if the test printed like it did, they would've at least called me & said "your photos suck, bad photographer!" hah well, at least in a nice way! & have me check before they printed 225! Oh well, they're fixing it & I get em tomorrow :)

I was going to say, if they were in the wrong color profile that would do it, and that's what it looked like... also, I hope you have calibrated your screen. Laptops are not the best for editing, but even apple's need to have their colors/contrast etc calibrated.  You also should be going to a lab where your files have that specific printer profile embedded in them and they print true, i.e. not run through a machine with automatic adjustments made.

Glad you got it figured out and they're not making you pay!

I am so sorry this happened, but the other bees are right. There is a significant difference. I don't have a fancy monitor here at work, but the bottom picture looks so much better. So glad you got it worked out!
