She had been sick for a few weeks. She was stable yesterday, but went downhill this morning. Our vet, who is also my boss, called me at school to let me know. DH and I rushed there, but didn’t make it in time to say goodbye. I pray that she didn’t think we had abandoned her when she needed us the most.

@strawbabies: I am SO sorry for your loss 🙁 Losing a pet is so difficult. Take comfort in that your baby didn’t think you abandoned her – the love and affection you showed her during her lifetime more than makes up for missing her last moments. Lots of hugs.

So sorry to hear that, I completely understand. She knows how much you loved and cared for her, they (dog? cat?) are extremely intuitive.

@strawbabies: My heart breaks for you! We love our pets like family, because they are family! I know what you are going through and it will get better! Your little fur baby knew how much she was loved and what a blessing it is that you had given her a good and loving home!

@strawbabies: I am so so sorry for your loss….I know losing a pet is just like losing a family member, I know no amount of words of comfort will lessen the pain, only time will do that…find comfort in the fact that she had an amazing life with you and treasure those memories, not the guilt

@strawbabies: Oh hun I am so very sorry for your loss. They are so precious and not with us nearly long enough. I am sure she knew and felt your love right up through the end.
Do you have a picture of your precious one to share? Wishing you loving thoughts and peace during this time.

@BurlapnLace: Thank you everyone, for your support. I hope I got all of you in this reply.
@Treejewel19: Here are a couple of photos of Angel. The top one is of her in her favorite spot on the couch. The back of it is permanently smushed in her shape, but I’d never dream of fixing it. The bottom one is of her doing one of her favorite activities–looking for lizards in the back yard.

@strawbabies: Aww she’s so sweet. Growing up we had a Westie/Schnauzer mix. Such wonderful dogs. He lived to be nearly 16 years old. What loves <3
