I am a teacher on spring break so I thought what better of a time to do a trial run for my DIY flowers. I plan on using fiftyflowers for our wedding day but today I visited Potomac Wholesale Flowers in the DC area. Very cool place if you live around here.
I picked up 3 white hydrangea, 24 lt. pink roses, 24 yellow roses, 24 cream roses and two bunches of solidago for greens. The total came to $80.00. I created 1 bouquet, 1 centerpiece, and 2 bud vases that will be used to decorate cocktail tables/bar area. Overall I am very please with out it turned out. I plan on using milk glass vases so this gives you a preview on how it will turn out.
I used the rubber floral strippers, a pair of scissors, floratape, floral pins and some old ribbon I had laying around. I was able to strip the roses and get rid of the guard petals in about an hour for all 72 roses. It took me about another hour or so to create the arrangements.
What do you think?
wow great job!!! we're DIY flowers too, but i haven't had a trial run yet. hope ours turn out as lovely as yours!
Those look great! I'm doing the same thing so this is so helpful. Roughly how many roses are in the bouquet alone?
Wow that looks awesome! I'm continually impressed by how talented the hive is!
Wow- you did an amazing job! I love how full and lush the bouquet and the centerpiece came out. You should do this on the side! =)
I'm going to be honest - when I hear about girls doing their own flowers, I want to cringe. Leaving something that big to chance?! I dont' think I could do it.
Your flowers are BEAUTIFUL! Honestly, they look professionally done. Great job lady!!
Thank you ladies for such kind words. I honestly have NEVER done this before and I was amazed how easy it really was. I know I was supposed to let the roses open more but I did not do that today so the # of roses needed for each probobly would be less as the white and pink roses were not open as much as I would have liked leaving me to use more to fill things in.
I used 30 roses for the bridal bouquet.
I used 30 roses and 3 hydgrenga for the centerpiece. Although I really could have used 4 hydgrengea and I would have taken the rose count down significantly.
I just looked at my order form. The white and pink roses were "sweetheart roses" which I believe are a bit smaller. This was probobly why I needed so many for each. When I order from fiftyflowers they will be full roses.
Holy moly! You did a great job!! Way better than anything I can do and I worked in a flower shop for over 3 years. That is seriously a job very well done. Congrats
YOU'RE HIRED!!! Oh wait... ;-)
But seriously, great job! They look incredible & very professional!
haha That is exactly what my fiance said when he came home from work. "Honey I think you found a summer job."
wow!!! they look great! is the big white vase a centerpiece!? it looks sooooo beautiful! I am ordering from fiftyflowers also and I hope mine come out this good!
WOW! I think I have bookmarks bouquets and centerpieces that look like those. Fantastic job!
@alisha--Yes the big white vase will be a centerpiece with two taper candles on either side.
The clear vase is just holding a bridal/bridesmaid bouquet.
The bud vases will be to decorate random places. Cocktail tables, bar, guestbook table, etc.
Honestly, I usually really don't like roses at all, but your arrangements are BEAUTIFUL and I totally just bookmarked this thread as inspiration. The gold and pink are so amazing together. GREAT JOB!!
Aw thank you ladies. I was so worried that they would look "DIY". For all you ladies considering it, get an inspiration picture and go with it. This was my inspiration picture I found online somewhere, see below. I wanted to use milk glass vases as they have been heirlooms from my grandmother but I did not want the rustic look instead I wanted it to look more vintage-elegant.
That makes me want to do that now!! You did an AWESOME job!! They are beautiful!!
my word they are GORGEOUS!! I'd love to do my own flowers but we live so rurally there's no easy flower market near by, and the only way to get flowers wholesale would be to get them through the local florist who my parents have already heavily hinted to that she'll be doing flowers for my wedding :-(
I really can't get over how talented you are and how great they look!! Good Job!!!
Wow, I'm seriously so impressed. The arrangements look beautiful! Good job! I love how big and fluffy the hydrangeas look.
You did a REALLY nice job! and I LOVE your centerpeice!! Yeah for great DIY projects!
Oh my gosh, I literally found myself saying "those are beautiful" outloud!!! What a great job!
Thank you ladies. They are getting even more beautiful as the roses are starting to open more.
you did an amazing job and i love your colors, those are my colors as well! :)
you give us all hope that we can DIY our flowers too!!! beautiful job!
