- Wedding: September 2013
We have been living together for 6 years as of April 2013 but I am the one with commitment phobia. Russ was waiting on me to be ready not the other way around. He had the whole thing planned by September 2011 a trip to Disneyland. That’s right ladies! He planned a proposal at the most magical place on earth, lol!! We didn’t go to Disneyland until January 2012 so he had to keep it a secret for months. I thought we were just going on vacation! During this time period, 2 of our other friends got engaged and harrassed him about when he was going to pop the question. He never said a word, he was afraid it was going to get back to me…then the week before we left I proceeded to have a panic attack about the fact that all of our friends were getting married and that I wasn’t ready for it…poor guy! He calmed me down and figured out I wasn’t freaking out about us just about the hugeness of commitment and that I wasn’t ( and still am not) ready to grow up. On to the actual story….
Our first day at Disneyland was the last day of Disneyland’s Christmas celebrations. The entire park was covered in Christmas lights, and they had a special lighting of Sleeping Beauty’s castle which was beautiful and coated in sparkley lights. Later there was a huge holiday fireworks show over the lighted castle.
Russ left me for a moment and came back saying that after the fireworks we were going to take pictures in front of the castle. The castle was roped off at that point so that people can take pictures one by one. The fireworks went off with music playing and ended with snow falling and then Russ brought me out in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle (I didn’t understand why we were the first ones allowed out) and proceeded to bend down on one knee and propose.
He caught me so completely off guard, that I thought he had dropped something on the ground. It actually took a moment for me to realize that he was proposing! People started whooping and hollering, I didn’t even hear them. One of the workers filmed ot for us on our camera (you can hear him say “oh snap” on the recording lol!!!) it’s not a great film but I’m thrilled to have it
So we got engaged in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle underneath the sparkling lightsand falling snow with my face painted and Fantasia hats on!
