The rehearsal dinner is tonight. Should we cancel or move it to another time?? What's the point of going if I won't be able to talk??

Hopefully it comes back, maybe gargle with warm salt water or something.  Is it possible to reschedule?  If so, maybe you'd feel more comfortable with that and then you can get some rest tonight.

I wouldn't cancel if you have a lot of other people who are planning on being there. Depending on how many people you're talking about, it might be easier to go through with the RD as planned, instead of cancelling.

As for tips on your voice, I was a voice major in college.  You want to try to avoid talking as much as possible.  Do NOT whisper, it's actually more damaging to your voice than just talking very quietly.  Drink a lot of water (like as much as you can stand) and decaf tea.  Avoid dairy, alcohol and caffeine.  You can use cough drops, but be careful not to talk too much afterwards.  Depending on the ingredients, they can kind of numb your vocal chords and you can damage them more.  If you can find cough drops with all natural ingredients and no menthol, that's what you want.  Steam is also good for you, if you can take a hot shower/bath and/or breathe in warm air, it's easier on your vocal chords.  I used to just heat a bowl of hot water and lean over it and breathe the steam.  Also, rest helps, so take a nap if you can. :)

Drink vinegar! It will bring your voice back for a period of time (it doesnt last forever, and isnt a whole lot of fun, but it should get your through the dinner) I wouldnt cancel since so many people have made arrangements to be there tonight for you.

Is there someone who can speak for you right now?  I mean, you could relay, by paper (like Jessie516 said, whispering is terrible for your voice) to someone who could make sure that what you want is carried through and speeches are made that you'd like to say.

If you're having vocal issues right now, you probably need to save your voice for the vows coming up in a few days.

I wouldn't cancel! I'm sure people have adjusted their schedules for this, and they won't be too happy (and might not be able to) to change them. Have FI speak for you. It's a good test, no? ;)

Seriously, I hope it comes back, either way. Good luck!!

Thanks for the tips everyone :D I've been drinking Raspberry tea all morning and will start on water asap..

It was a mixture of the weekend weather, and a singing piano bar we went to Sat. Night. That was my un-official bachelorette party. Had a blast, but that weather didn't do me any good! I've done my share of Karaoking and Rock Band and I've never lost my voice completely like today.. Oh, but it was a blast :D too bad for today and i DEFINITELY hope it comes back by this weekend!!

I agree, don't cancel.  You shouldn't have to talk that much.  Whatever you want to say, have your FI say for you.

i wouldn't cancel either. have someone make an announcement that your voice is currently mia so everyones not trying to get you to explain your lack of voice. gargle, drink lots of hot tea, and try and leave the party earlier i guess. good luck!

Don't cancel.  Add some honey to your tea to help coat your throat and don't talk any more than you have to for right now!
