- Wedding: August 2012
To be standing with you here today is completely surreal. I can’t believe we have finally arrived at this place, that we are finally marrying each other. You have been my best friend for over four years now, and starting today, I get to call you my husband. I am so happy that we are becoming a family, that we get to share the rest of our lives with each other and laugh together every day until we are old and wrinkly.
When we first met, clearly neither of us had any idea we would end up here. But I also didn’t think I would ever learn to like sushi or dark chocolate or any of the other things I’ve given a second chance because of you. You have inspired me, encouraged me, listened to and consoled me. You have somehow understood me when I thought it impossible. You have made me laugh more than anyone I have ever known. Even when we walked for four hours to get to the Golden Gate Bridge and back and I got a terrible sunburn and then you told me you liked the Bay Bridge better, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. You are my perfect person.
P, beginning today, I promise to build a marriage with you while we are young that will continue to sustain us into our old age.
I promise to be the best partner I can be, to put you before myself, to respect you and always know you better than anyone else.
I promise to live a life of compassion with you, to try to better the world with you, and to live simply.
I promise to encourage you, listen to you, take care of you, but also understand when you need space.
I promise to meditate on major decisions with you, to be realistic but to also share dreams with you.
I promise to embrace whatever our family becomes, to nurture it and always put it first.
Above all, I vow to love you. Completely. For all the days of my life.
Anything you think needs changing? Are they too long? We are having immediate family only, just fyi. I feel like I will inevitably make some changes since we still have 9 months to go but I thought I’d get some opinions here as well. Thanks!
