- Wedding: March 2013
Hello ladies 🙂 For those of you not familiar, I posted this a few weeks ago: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/everything-is-falling-to-pieces
I had some responses from some very lovely, supportive Bees – so much so that I was compelled to come back and post an update 🙂
Well, it seems life does have a funny way of working out – DH’s Mum got out of hospital the day before the wedding, and was able to attend!!
I’m not going to bore you all with details, but all of those worries seemed to melt away when I faced my now HUSBAND (eek!!) on the day… It was the most incredible day <3 The worst thing that happened on the day was that I stuffed up a word in my vows!! LOL!
There are still some things that are stressing me out slightly – obviously my now mother-in-law is nowhere near out of the woods yet, but she’s home and we’re all looking after her, which is better than her being miserable in a hospital. We (very unexpectedly, since we’d specifically requested no cash or gifts) recieved a pile of absolutely amazing gifts from our familes and friends, along with monetary gifts which went a long way with relieving my stress about our financial situation 🙂 I was so shocked (and happy!!) that I just broke down crying on the night – I just couldn’t believe how thoughtful everyone had been!! < 3
I’ve now been married for a week, and I’m in SUCH a better place than I was a few weeks ago – it’s insane!!! I had people coming up to me on the night, and for this week after, telling me it was the best wedding they’d been to 🙂 Not for the venue or the food or the music, but simply for the reason that everybody REALLY felt like it was a celebration 🙂 There were no tantrums, no cringe-worthy moments, no drunk cousin making a fool of themselves… although we were so happy at that point that everything came together for the day that NOTHING would have really fazed us at that point!!
The one thing that stands out for me more than anything was speech time. There were only 5 speeches planned – the MOH, the best man, my Dad, myself, and my husband. After everyone had spoken, there was the traditional “Anyone have anything they want to say?”. I was expecting a resounding “no” – after all, who gets up to a microphone without a speech planned? Evidently, our guests!! About FIFTEEN unplanned speeches (including an adorable one by DH 3 year old nephew!!) later, everyone was in hysterics, there were people who had never met before hugging each other, and more toasts made than I could keep up with!! 🙂
My Facebook news feed the next day was COVERED with people talking about my wedding, guests all sending each other friend requests, and so many photos that I’ve already got a full album and I haven’t even gotten my professional photos back yet!!! 🙂
Our day was amazing, and truly made me realize that while life can be really crap sometimes, and throw a bunch of shit at you that you can’t prepare for, it is also has a way of working itself out in the most amazing way possible < 3
