I don’t have a recommendation for a vendor since I’m not from the area, but what’s listed in your contract? My first photographer had it written in the contract that if she was unable to fulfill her obligations in anyway, she would help find someone else or get someone to shoot in her place (at the same price/level of service/style of shooting).

This kind of happened to me!  My photographer is a husband/wife team and she is due one week before our wedding!!!  My photog called before Christmas and said that she wouldnt be there but he was going to interview other photogs to replace her.  I was definitely freaked out when it happened and had a little bit of Bridezilla freak out moment… but now, Im just dealing with it.

There isnt much that you can do in situations like these.  I’m sure youll be able to find another comparable photog!!!

@leecy87:  What part of SC is your wedding & what is your budget?

@leecy87:  You may want to look into photo students, there’s an art & design school in Savannah GA (right by the south SC state line) SCAD. I have a friend who applied there a few years ago, they had to show a portfolio to be accepted (so had to have good work but not sure if that’s how they still do things). East Coast photogs may know more about the schools around there.

+1 on the SCAD idea. It is a tough school to get into, so whoever you hire will be talented!

@leecy87:  At this point it’s going to be important to manage your expectations in your search for a wedding photographer for $700 for a date that is just 6 months away. Professional photographers cannot shoot weddings for that price so like others said your best bet is to find a student and accept the risks that come along with hiring a student – they are uninsured, inexperienced with weddings, and may not have a lot of professional gear/back up gear. Talent in portraits does not translate to weddings so if at all possible try to find someone who has at least done a wedding or two.

My photographer was based out of Wilmington and only charged $500!  I know she will travel, but with your wedding in Mt. Pleasant, you’d end up having to pay her gas and hotel.  So, that would probably exceed your $700 budget.  My advice to you is to search Craigslist!  That’s where I found my photographer and there were many more with comparable pricing.  Someone on here suggested I search there and when I did, I was amazed.  I never thought I’d be able to have pro-pics since most of the quotes I see on here are in the thousands range.
