Good memory mtyf! Yes I had 4 outfits! I had gotten the chi pao made in china a few years ago and knew I would wear it during the banquet. However, my mom also wanted me to rent a qua (that heavy beaded and embroidered jacket/skirt thing) to wear too because she thought it would be more unique than the chi pao which everyone wears. Also, she says that in the past, only the "first" wife got to wear the qua and the other wives wore the chi pao. Don't know where she got that idea from but whatever! hehehehe I didn't think I looked that good in either one and didn't want either of the dresses in the cake pics so I rented that formal too.
That must have been fun for your guests! I am Chinese but didn't really do anything culturally traditional - I went with a 'regular' wedding gown, and changed into a cute shorter (more dance-able) dress late in the night. Funny thing, though, my very American friend wore a red and gold qi pao to the wedding! I didn't really think much of it, because I had never planned on wearing one, but after the wedding, looking at pictures, etc., I thought it was pretty hilarious. (If I had changed into one, it probably would have been less hilarious...!) I remember her asking me if a long dress was appropriate for the wedding, but she never mentioned that it was a qi pao... in red and gold, no less! I wonder if any of my Chinese relatives noticed...
mtyf - Yes, that must have been funny for the asian girl to not wear the chi pao and the non-asian girl to wear such a bridal chi pao to your wedding! hahahah Oh, I'm sure your relatives probably notice and was saying "I can't believe she wore that to the wedding!" You know how gossipy Chinese people can be! hahaha
Maude - Yes, I did make them. They are actually not all that hard to make, but just a bit of a pain to your thumbs since there is a lot of punching involved! It's just a corner punch! :)
Hi all, thanks for all the inspiration, advice and general great wedding info. Here is a small collection of my pro pics!
