Okay, so I wouldn’t normally write such a long post about my bad morning, but I thought some of you might find it funny and there are some lessons to be learned. It begins with Thursday night... on my way to my edu leadership class my passenger side window fell down, I didn’t think of it as such a big deal because I knew it was broken and all that had to be done was to open the door panel, push the window back up, and reset the 2x4 holding it up (this is another long story).  So, I figured I’d just go to a service station and get help doing this.  Ah, but no one would help me without paying them $100 first.  So, I just went to class with it broken and had my husband fix it when I got home.  When he fixed it the door lock wouldn’t go back in place, so now my passenger side door will not open from the outside. Ugh.

This morning…I decided to get to work early so I could use the time to get some of my grades done.  While on the 57 freeway I hear a “thunk” sound and about 30 seconds later it came back “thunk, thunk, thunk” – one of my rear tires had blown out.  So, I slowly move from the fast lane into the slow lane so I can get off of the fwy, but as I start doing so my car starts shaking violently.  So, I ended up pulling over on the side of the fwy at the Lambert exit.

The next series of events:  I call my husband and learn that he never got around to adding me to his AAA after telling me to cancel my own.  I learn that I do not have my wallet with me.  I start to cryA CHP officer pulls up behind me and walks over to my passenger side window and asks me to roll it down which, of course, I can’t.  So he yells at me to unlock the door, which I try to do but, of course, he can’t open it.  So I lean over to open it from the inside, and it still won’t open.  At this point I am very frustrated and still crying.  Eventually I get out of the car on the driver side (the officer controlled traffic so I could do so).  He is obviously very mad at me and tells me that I should have driven to a service station; I try to explain to him about the violent shaking and he just says to me, “haven’t you watched all the car chases on TV – You can drive on blown tire.”  At this point he is laughing at me.

He has me follow him off of the fwy on to Lambert road – I think he is taking me to a service station, but no – he takes me to the parking lot of Kaiser Permanente.  Once there, I turn off my car and get out and he says to me, “I suggest you call your husband or someone to get this fixed.” And then he LEAVES!!!!  No offer of help, nothing!

I can’t call a towing company because I have no wallet to pay them; I have an idea of how to put the spare tire on, but I didn’t think I was capable of doing it myself.  Long story short – My friend Claudia ended up calling her fiancé for me (he works in the OC), and he was able to come by where I was parked on his way to work and put my spare tire on for me. I actually made it to work before my first class. However, I am still shocked at the lack of help that was offered by strangers – including the CHP officer.  I am so thankful for friends like Claudia and Gill.  Gill even showed me how to change the tire myself incase it happens again.

Awww I'm so sorry about your terrible, no good, very bad day. That is such a sucky series of events. That cop is a JERK! "Haven't you watched movies - you can drive on a blown tire." Sure you can but that doesn't mean you SHOULD. You did the right thing, poo on him!
Virtual hugs and cookies! Oh, and maybe yell at the hubster for not adding you to AAA! :)

That stinks!  It was like the constellation of all bad things that could happen all at once.

When I got my driver's license, my dad made me change my tire several times before he'd let me drive on my own.  I hated him for it at the time, but love him for it now.

In fact, when I lived in San Francisco, my ex and I were at a concert, and we came out to find my tire slashed.  It was pouring rain, and I thought, "Oh, well he'll change the tire..." Wrong!  He didn't know how.  So I ended up doing it.  Though we didn't break up because of that, it was just one more straw on that camel's back!

Oh no! Those things always seem to happen when you have the best-made plan to get to work or wherever early!

My "worst morning ever" was about a year ago. I was flying to San Francisco on a business trip & meeting my boss at the airport early so we could have breakfast before our flight.
I got up early(about 4am) got ready, put my luggage in the trunk & headed off to take the express bus to the airport so I wouldn't have to deal with traffic or sky-high parking rates. The bus terminal is 35 minutes from our house. I got coffee on the way & drove leisurely to the bus. WELL, when I parked my car, I went to grab my purse & OH NO!!! WHERE is my purse???!!! I searched all over the car, in the trunk, even in my suitcase...no purse anywhere...no money...no license...no cell phone.....eeeeeeek!

I get back on the highway, race home doing 90 mph (praying I don't get pulled over) & lo and behold, there's my purse sitting in the driveway. So I've now missed the express bus so I call my boss, she laughs, says okay, calm down, call the airline. So I find another flight 2 hrs later that I can make if I get a different bus to the airport...the ladies at the airline desk were sooooo sweet & helpful getting my flight switched...thank God coz I was thisclose to tears...so after connecting in Denver...grabbing a beer there on my layover...I FINALLY got to SF & to our opening night gala 10 minutes before it began :)....aaahh...the best-made plans....

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories and your support!  The day ended up better than I could have imagined.  We had our "Staffulty" awards dinner last night and I ended up getting an award from my students that made me cry -- it was wonderful!!

Oh man. Since your day got better, it's good that you stuck it out! I would have probably gone home and called in sick, then went back to bed. lol.

it started out as the worst day... priscilla of boston was having a sale that started at 8am. i was supposed to meet a friend in front of our workplace before heading over to the shop.  as i was riding my bike to work, a cab nearly hit me and i had to swerve out of the way - only to hit the curb and go flying into a big intersection! some stangers were kind enough to pull me and my bike off the road and sit me down.  i was in such shock that i didn't realize my chin was swelling like a balloon, my entire right side from foot to shoulder was scraped up or bleeding.  i tried to get up to get back on my bike but those kind people told me to take a few moments to collect myself by telling me their biking stories and offering me water (how many crazy drivers are in boston?!? oh, and the cab just drove away...). eventually, i made it to work, washed myself off, put a gazillion bandaids to cover my right side and after a few tears, i decided to go to shopping anyway.  on the way, my right wrist started hurting so badly i had to cling it to my chest.  by the time i was in the shop, i couldn't even lift those heavy dresses off the rack!  i had to wait by the 'return' rack for the dresses that people didn't want after trying them on. then THE DRESS came along.  my friend picked it up and stood on line while i waited for others.  when i finally tried on the dress, it was perfect.  no blemishes and no rips because it wasn't even a sample.  so i bought it on sale at 80% off and since it needs no alterations, i have my beautiful dress.

Wow travelchick!  Better to end your day on a good note though.  Congrats on finding your dress!  And I agree, Boston drivers are not the most law abiding.  Especially the cabbies!  I mean seriously, yellow lights do not mean go.  They mean stop even if you can go.  And when the light turns green and you're trying to make a left turn, you YIELD!!!  You don't just go and try to make it before oncoming traffic starts.  Ugh, bad memories.

My worst DAY ever was last Thursday. I am a high school teacher and had a meeting with my department for the first half of the day (we had sub coverage). I had put my name in to be the new department chair (only because my Assistant Principal had asked me to) and we voted at the very end of the meeting. Just as we were leaving, the AP pops out of a side office to announce the winner (the other guy). Then, I had to go to another meeting immediately after at lunch where I was told by my principal that I was getting a RIF (reduction in force) or layoff notice on Saturday. My finace and I just bought a house last May and are getting married this May, so this is very bad timing. After that news, I went up to my room for my prep period and cried a lot. Then, I had to stay at school until 8:30PM because we had parent conferences that night. I basically wanted to crawl in a hole for a month after that day!
