Hi! I was married on October 18th and I went to the social secunity office on October 30th and applied for my name change. It has been four weeks and still no social security card! We have a terrible mail carrier and it’s Thanksgiving! Should I give it a few more days or should I reapply? Has anyone had experience with this? I already placed a fraud alert on my credit just to be safe!

Shootursuprhero: Did you check with the SSA to see if they’ve already sent out your card? I don’t see the point in reapplying if they have your app..

Shootursuprhero: I’d check with the SSA. I was also married on Oct. 18 and applied for my name change on Oct. 31. My new card arrived in about 2 weeks. Did they give you a printed document to carry until your SS card comes? Like PP said, you probably don’t need to reapply, they may just need to send a new card out.

I guess it depends on where you live and the time of year you visit the SS office. My card took less than a week to get to me, but I went in April BEFORE wedding season. My local office said 2-3 weeks.
I would attempt to call first and see if your new card was sent out before taking any further actions.
