I changed mine, that’s interesting because on my marriage license I was told to use my maiden name. I did make my maiden name my middle name though so I still have it

@Kimberley25:

I’m a little concerned. I’m pretty sure you were meant to put your legal name on your marriage licence. If you put a name you have never gone through the legal process of aquiring on your marriage licence, I’m pretty sure it might be considered void. You might want to look into this.

@Kimberley25:

You said you signed your surname as a hyphenated combination of your husband’s and your own on the marriage certificate (after you were married) and the marriage license (from before you were married). I was concerned because I thought you meant both. I’m pretty sure you must sign the marriage license with your maiden name because you as the person with the married name does not exist in a legal sense yet. Sorry if I misunderstood you!

just wondering…are you planning on having children? If so, what will their last names be?  I have been debating changing mine (not married yet)

I am not planning on changing my name offically, simply because I like my name, it’s both my first and surnames are Italian so they just work together, his name would not work with mine. I was thinking about hyphanating it though because I do like the tradition, I also don’t mind maybe unoffically changing it…I don’t know if you can do that…

BelleEtoile:  I asked about this when I went in recently because I just can’t decide. I basically asked what if I put down my married name on my license, but never change anything and keep my current name. And really the only thing she thought that could affect is a passport. But I wonder if it’d be more? Buying a house? Social Security?
