So I know this topic has been hashed and rehashed but I need some first hand experience advice. What I want to do, when I get married, is change my middle name from what it is currently to my maiden name, and take my husband’s last name as my last name. So I would go from being FIRST MIDDLE MAIDEN to being FIRST MAIDEN HUSBAND’SLAST. However, I’ve heard that Washington State won’t let you change your middle name with just a marriage certificate, that you need a court order. But I’ve also heard stories of people who did this in Washington state and had no problem. I don’t want to get a court order…if it comes down to that, I’ll just keep my middle name, but I want to know, has anyone actually been turned down in Washington State from trying to do what I want to do? Or is it one of those “official” things that you can actually get away with?
