I’m still debating as to whether I’m going to keep my last name nand use his socially, or to or keep my maiden name and use it as my middle name and use his last name as my last name.
I’ve heard that there are these companies that do all the name change stuff for you – but how does that work? Then there’s also the option of doing all of the name changes at each place individually but I bet that’s a major pain in the ass.
Does anyone have any suggestions for companies/agencies which do it all for you?

@classical_wolf: I cannot answer about the name change companies, but a similar topic was brought up yesterday. I’m not sure NY will allow option 2. Research name options, so you don’t get suprised 🙁

Changing your name really isn’t all that complicated honestly. The SS office and the DMV are the worst of it, and if you go on off times it really doesn’t take that long. I think those companies basically just fill out the forms for you, which IMO is a waste of money.

+1. In trying to help a bee from Ohio yesterday, I was surprised to discover via missnowmrs.com that Washington, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey allegedly do not allow a woman to change her middle name due to marriage. Allegedly, a woman would need a court order in these states to make her maiden name her middle name on any state documents, even though she can have her name changed in this manner with the SSA.
