ooo this is tough ... I guess like tessabella, it would help to know your target shopper. What is your goal for this business? Looking for cutesy or serious?
Targeting women 18 - 30 mainly, but also this is a fairly "posh" area, so that range could go older.
I want a Swoozie's type feel... Little girls want their moms to bring them there, older girls think of it as the go-to place for baby and bridal gifts everyone will ooohh and aaahhhh over...
Cutesy in the sense that these shoppers are willing to pay for something that is pretty easy to a fairly creative DIYer. Not cutesy cheap or craft-fair looking. Don't think I have any of my portfolio pics at work, but let me look...
I'll brainstorm and come back =]
That swoozies site is real cute! we had a boutique in my college town that was like this called Red Door Gifts which was kind of not my taste in names.
Need something catchy.
Is the store going to be in Sugar Land?
What's your name? Pet's name? Fav vacation spot? Make it personal!!
And then add Shoppe at the end. Haha. Stores sound fancier when there are extra letters for no reason.
Since you love Weddinbee how about a name that takes into account you're in love, you live in Sugar Land TX, andyou love this place and all the design fun we have here?
Sugar Bees' Boutique!
How about something with your sign in name?
Costura Querida
Querido Mio
I love these ideas ladies... SUGARBEES is Cute Cute and I love the TX in TEXAS SUGAR since I have a bit of a rustic/western flair usually... ! I may just have to run down and grab a few business DBAs pronto ASAP... And yes - the store really would be in the Sugar Land area.
OK Hive - I still need your ideas... Sugar Bee's and Sugarbee's / Sugarbees may be a problem - there are quite a few of those...
and Texas Sugar is copyrighted by a hot sauce place...
Pink Chocolate appears to be available... still checking it out...
Keep those ideas coming...
Here is a super interesting article about types of company names:
http://www.thenameinspector.com/10-name-types/
In fact, the guy's whole site might be of interest to you! Pink Chocolate makes me expect that your store will sell chocolate, or desserts.
Maybe you could try to generate adjectives that you hope customers will use to describe your store, and use that to make a name?
Quierda, let me know if you need suppliers for jewelry! My friend and I make handmade beaded jewelry that I think would work well! Check us out on myspace.com/branchedoutjewels We also have a couple of things on Artfire under shackamaxon industries.
SWEET PETALS or UNE PETAL- since you want different age groups to come in think of it as different petals on a flower however each one is unique (i.e. your customers are distinct, however similarly situated) so its like going to neimans with the personal attention however its a posh thing for everyone not just the prestige (although you want to set that up) UNE - being one in French - so that's the unique portion, SWEET being the motherly, baby portion of it and PETAL being the distinct layers of one united item. :) Hope this helps!
i like both of the petals as well!! i also make the letters for kids' rooms so if you'd like any, let me know.
Or Sweet Bees?
I'm too tired to figure out anymore. I'll brainstorm more when my mind hurts less. :)
howabout, Suggar Bees Katour? Working on having things spelled differently... Hope this helps.
Can you give us some pics, or an inspiration board.. for now i've got Sugar Rush!
Oooh, Sugar Rush is cute. :)
I'd avoid anything with a 'different spelling.' Typically, or at least what they teach you in design school, that's not a great thing to do.
Great ideas bees!! How about SWEET BEE...sounds like sweet pea..haha sorry if thats corny!
@jingle96- lol. my thoughts exactly. that's why i suggested sweet bees! :p
you might want to watch out not to overdo the sweet/sugar/etc thing, or people might think it's a candy store! :)
Okay.......... I live in Waco, grew up near Houston, just hear me out on this--
What about SweetTea's?
Get it? Like Sweet Tea? And sounds like "sweetie"? I love it! Lol, I'm sorry I just love my own idea.
i'm sorry fiftyfootbride...I didn't see that post, I didn't mean to copy you!! But i guess great minds think alike!!
There's a place like this in my town that sells cute gift items and the store is called "Tangerine". Then they have a store right next door that sells only baby items and it is called "Baby Clementine". I think names like that are really clever!
@jingle- lol. i didn't think you copied. :) great minds do think alike!
B's Nest
Lemongrass Boutique
Polkadots and Princes
Cellar Door
Ivy Fences
Black Tie Baby
...yeah, I'm not going to offer any explanations, because it's after my bedtime where I live already. :)
You guys crack me up... You have given me GREAT inspiration. I'm working on a board of sorts, but I want to make sure i go through all the proper steps to do this... In the meantime, FI is layed off and I'm the Sugar Mama (LOL) so i need to focus on THIS job... If something pops into your head, be sure to share!!!
And just to clarify - I'm open to selling premade food products (gifts), but don't want to be a sweet shop, so to speak, so I'd like the name to not be super confusing... I've expanded the target to women 15 - 65.
@txlawgirl: and I love it too!
Good ideas here, I like Sugar Bee's and Sweet Tea's -sorry but not into Sugar Rash - a rash is not a good thing. Keep us updated, I'm in the Houston area also. Have you checked out Charming Charlie's? I just went there and thought they had some cute gift stuff. Would love to find more stores with cute gifts. You could totally make it with the right marketing.
Quireda: You just said it SUGAR MAMA!!! I think its perfect for your shop!
lol.. I'll add it to the list. Charming Charlies is somewhat where I'm headed... Marketwise, at least. They are a bit too big and bargain basement feeling though. I want something smaller and warm. BUT - their gift section is right up my alley!
I promise to keep you posted!
I love simple, snappy names. "Swoon" was the first thing that came to mind for me -- a brief nod back to the era when women were forced into corsets and had no choice but to deal with shortness of breathe from their attire, but also a look forward to how awesome attire and accessories make the shopper in all of us go gaga over cute couture items!

Ok Hive... Put your heads together.
Background*** I want to start a business. A boutique type place... Cute flip flops and crafts, jewelry, sparkles, feathers, good smelling stuff, bows, frames and lots of custom options - gift baskets and diaper cakes. Zebra print and hot pink, chocolate brown and teal damask... Chic and hip meets soccer mom couture...
I've dabbled in this for about a year and seem to be doing fine, but since I work full time in a completely different industry (and I'm planning a wedding - duh) and I have 2 kids, it's pretty hard to give it a bunch of attention. What I want to do is ramp it up a bit.
FIRST THINGS FIRST - It needs a name... I have business cards with just my name on them, but I need a real NAME for this. My business plan is full of blanks!!! Catchy, cute, irresistible. So hive - Brainstorm away.... Put everything you can think of out - if it's not "the one" it make spark it... Ready... Set... GO!
