So I thought DH and I had moved past this, but instead of him not being sure about the name Genevieve.. it’s me!
I’m 28weeks, and whenever people asks what I’m having, then her name.. I usually get a puzzled response… or a “that’s unique.” or “cute”…. I guess I was expecting people to think it was beautiful like I do/did….
Maybe it’s a little too old fashioned? Or I don’t know… I thought it would be kinda unique, but I didn’t want it to be unique like naming her “Honey Moon Flower”..
So now I’m loving the name Ava.. yes the 5th most popular name for girls for the past 5 years!
SO! Genevieve? Ava?

My best friend is named Genevieve, we call her Genny. Ava is pretty too, but I’m a bit biased.

Between Genevieve and Ava, I like Genevieve way better. It sounds more feminine and beautiful. But it depends on what you want. Do you want feminine? Active? Fresh? Casual?

@Mewithoutyou: I like Genevieve, it isn’t overly common where I’m from but it is pretty and has nice nicknames (Genny, Gen, Evie). I’m not real partial to Ava.

My darling great grandmother is named Genevieva and I hated the only girl I ever met named Ava. I’m biased!! But Ava is pretty trendy, I think, and I like the idea of bringing back vintage names!

I LOVE Genevieve. It’s a lovely name. It’s 2nd on my name list if the D-C’s are blessed with a baby.

@Mewithoutyou: I don’t mind Genivieve, but don’t like it shortened to Gen. Maybe if you call her Evie. Otherwise I would choose Ava!

@Mewithoutyou: I love Genevieve! Pick what you love, who cares what others say. 😉

I definitely prefer Genevieve. It’s more interesting and unique than Ava, and you can do loads with nicknames if the full name feels too old for everyday use.

I like them both, but I like Genevieve better. Evie would be such a cute nickname!

I’m not a fan of super-popular names, so Ava would be out for me. I really like the name Genevieve. Definitely more unique and very pretty.

You could also use Eva as a nickname for Genevieve, then you’d have a little of both names 🙂 I wouldn’t base my decision on other people’s reactions (but then I don’t tell people our choices either) – names always grow on people once they belong to someone they know

I love both Genevieve (with the nick name Evie/Eve) and Ava, but Genevieve is prettier and less common, so it gets my vote.
Another option could be Genevieva with the nick name Eva, or even Geneva which can also have the nick names Evie and Eva.
Genevieve is unique, that’s why I like it. It’s unique in that it’s not often used, not unique in a “what the hell was she thinking” kind of way.
And it’s miles better then something like Nevaeh, Jacirah, Alyzabeeth, James or Chardonnay (I actually know women who have named their daughters with these names).

I knew a Genevieve who was PSYCHO, so that name is really tainted for me, but I’m also not a big fan of Ava. I think Evie would be an okay nickname for Genevieve.

I know a mother and daughter who are both named Genevieve- they are so cute!
