I recently was married (yay!) so now I have the lovely task of changing my name.
I am moving at the end of the month. Should I just wait to do everything until I have my new address? I would have to change my name now then in 15 days go and change my address. I don’t technically have to change my name so no harm in waiting right? I already have my marriage license for the record.
I figure first up is SSC. Is that a correct assumption?

I would at least do social security now since that could take the longest to get the card. After that, it might be worth trying to do it at once. I avoid the DMV at all costs though, so I’d definitely do that in one trip.

@abbie017: Yeah I was thinking I could get the SSC done and then move on from there. Thanks!

I changed my name and address all at once, too. I don’t think your address affects anything at the SS office, except where they send your card, so you could do that now. But I don’t think there’d be any harm in waiting till you’ve moved to do it all. Less confusion that way!
I didn’t go to the SS office till about six months after our wedding.

We’re moving next week, so I’m doing it all at once. Does anyone know if the DMV charges you to change both?

I moved a year before my wedding and I still haven’t changed a thing because I want to do it all at once!

Social Security is first. It took about a week to get card. You need card for bank, DMV. I would wait and do both t same time.
