I am not pregnant , but have been giving this alot of thought. What do your kids/will your future kids call your parents? Why? There are too many options to make a poll, so just "scream" them out. This should be quite interesting. If there is a difference between the paternal and maternal Granparents' name, please state that. Thanks for participating.

My mom has my Godbaby call her Grammy (or Gwama..as he says), so I am sure that's what my kids will call her. My sister's kids call my dad Dada, but I don't like that. They call his wife Mimi.

My parents had specific names that they tried to get my nephew to call them. He has renamed them Bo Bo and Jo Jo. They respond.

My grandparents were Nana and Papa, and I know that's what my parents will want to be called.  FMIL will want to be Bestemor (father's mother, in Norwegian); FI's grandmother on his mother's side was Mormor.  FI's grandparents on his dad's side were Nonnie and Pop...I kind of hope FFIL doesn't want to be Pop, but he can pick what he wants and I will follow his lead.

My parents will be grandma and grandpa, as that's what I called both sets of grandparents. My husband's parents are already Nanni and Poppy to my BIL's daughter, so they'll take that for us too.

I think this is something that the grandparents decide... you might be stuck with Dada!

We don't have kids, but my FH calls his grandfather "pup-pup" (but writes it Popp-Popp), and his grandmother "mum-mum" but writes it (Momm-Momm).  I'd never heard "pup-pup" before.  His maternal grandmother is "Nana."

I didn't know my maternal grandfather, the paternal was "grandpap."  My grandmothers were "Go-Go" and "grandma."

I'm not pregnant but when we do have a baby it's likely that it will be the first on both sides.   I think my husbands parents will go by Grammy and Grandpa since that's what he called all of his grandparents (and what my in laws refer to themselves as when they talk to my dog!).  My mom will probably be Nana and I think my dad will be Pappou which is Greek.

My paternal grandparents were Grandpop and Nana and my maternal grandparents are Tutu and Papo.  My mom and stepdad have elected to go by Grandma and Grandpa and my Dad and his lady go by Gramps and Mimi.  My inlaws go by Gramps and Grand-Suzanne.  I'm not sure what our kid is going to do about two "Gramps" but I'm sure it will work out.

I think my mom would disown me if we allow our children to call her "Grandma".

She says she has to be "Mimi" (which is what I call HER mom & my husband's niece calls HIS mom).

I think we'll just do Mimi (LastName) to keep it from getting too confusing.

I dunno, I've always seen that the grandparents decide.  But if you really don't like it, you could probably convince him to go by something else :)

My grandparents were always Grandma and Grandpa (insert city where they live).  Idk, why...  We've already started Addie with Grandma and Grandpa (last name), so hopefully that will continue.  Although my nephew calls my dad Pop-pops, so that might carry on.

I kind of think what the grandkids call their grandparents should kind of be left up to those grandparents (ie they get to decide what they would like to be called).

That said, I always called all of my grandparents "grandma" and "grandpa" growing up.

My parents will be grandma and grandpa and his parents will be bubbie and zadie (his side is jewish and that is yiddish for grandma and grandpa). I call my grandparents Grandma and Grandpa and the other set Nana and Papa. It is what they wanted and it sure helps keeping them straight when talking about them! I called my great grandmother Grandmama. I guess the more grand you are the more ma's you get! lol

@stephinPA: Too Cute, I have a set of polish grandparents and we call them Bushi (grandmother) and Jaja or DziaDzia (grandfather).

My mother swears she will not be a Bushi or Busha.

Some other ones I have heard and like:

    • Nena
    • Pop pop
    • Papa
    • G-ma
    • Gigi.

We're expecting twins right now but there are grandchildren on my side.  When my nephew was born my mom insisted on being called 'Nonna' - the Italian term for grandmother and we all called my dad 'Grandad' which is very common in Ireland.  As soon as my nephew could speak he called my mother Nonna, much to her delight, and started calling my father Poppa - totally out of the blue.  Poppa has stuck for the other two.

My maternal grandparents were MeeMaw (which I believe originated as Grandma and my eldest cousin changed that when she started talking) and PawPaw (same deal as MeeMaw.)

My in-laws are going to become grandparents when we have our children and my FIL has said he'd like to be 'Grandad' and my MIL wants to be called by her first name (which I think is odd!)  She's not the first woman I've heard of who doesn't want a 'grandmother' name because she thinks it makes her sound old.  If I were going to be a grandmother I'd be ALL OVER IT!  I think of it as something to be excited about and proud of.  My BILs are funny - they were teasing their mom when she said she wanted to be called by her first name - like when the children get bigger they'll go visit 'Grandad' and his special friend 'Lola' (her name's not lola)  ;0)  One BIL joked that my children will wonder where their grandmother lives and why Grandad lives with that other lady.

One thing I've learned is that you can come up with names for grandparents but once the children start talking, all bets are off!

My Mom wanted to be Mimi, but the first grandchild usually makes the name in however they first pronounce it, and it sticks. My Mom was Meem and my Dad is Poppy to our kids.

My one sister is NeNe and her husband is Reed (dubbed by their first grandaughter and they love it). I guess it came from her name which is Denise and my BIL used to tease her that his name was Mr.Reed to her...so she calls him Reed.

My other sister is MiMi and her husband is GranDad.

I want to be called Honey...but my kids think it's stupid!

My grandparents were Bom and Papa on my Mom's side and Nana and Bompa on my Dad's side. My oldest sister (who was the first grandkid) named my grandmother "Bom" because she kept hearing my Mom call her "Mom"

I'm not sure how "Bompa" came about, but boy was it confusing as a kid! I kept thinking Bom and Bompa went together and Papa and Nana went together. It took me till I was about 7 to finally figure it out.

With my oldest niece, we were calling my parent's everything from Nana and Papa, to Gramma and Grampa. My niece somehow came up with NeeNee (Nini?) and Papa (pronounced "PAW-paw"  So cute!).

    We'll see if it sticks!

My son calls his grandparents all Grandpa and Grandma with their names because their are 3 sets. His two sets of Great Grandparents all have special names though. Theres Gamma-Gamma and Papa, and Grammie and Boompa. They are similar but they all can tell when he's talking about one of the other ones.

My grandparents (his great grandparents) are Nana and Papa and the other set is just Grandma Mary and Grandpa.

Luckily we only keep in contact with just my side. My poor kid as a total of 19 legal grandparents! (only 6 come from my side) Yeah thats just how messed up my husbands family is! lol

My mom has already said she wants to be called "Grammy". My aunt's grandkids call her this and it's just sort of stuck through our family. I'm not so sure about my dad, but definitely not "grandpa", that's what we call his dad.

I'm not pregnant either and my parents don't have grandkids, but my Mom picked out her Grandma name years ago.  My Mom wants to be called Bunny because she likes rabbits and she thinks Bunny is cuter than Grandma.  No idea what my Dad will want to be called.

MIL is Aya, which is a derivative of Abuela (Spanish for Grandmother).  MIL feels she can't be Abuela because that is what her Mom is called.  FIL is Poppy (insert first name here).

Other names I've heard and liked for Grandmas - Honey, Bella, GiGi.  The Grandpa names seem to be harder.
