You only think of one thing?

Recently in a poll the name Caroline was listed as a possible name. I hear in my head anytime that name is said... Sweet Caroline...bum bum bum.... I am sorry if your name is Caroline but it happens every time! Does anyone else have a name that they associate something with every time they hear it?

My daughter's name (Cecilia) gets the song nearly every time we tell it to someone.  We did play her that song every morning when she woke up for the first 5-6 months of her life!

I tend to associate names with people I know. For example, the class bully that never left me alone throughout elementary and middle school was named Bob, so if anyone asked me what I thought of the name Robert or Bob, I'd say run the other direction! Haha. And people that really irritate me can ruin a name I like. Though it does take a lot of irritation to get to quite that level.

I'm sure I have some that make me think of things but I can't think of any.  I do know that with my name being Molly people sing at me all the time when they meet me.

@Mrs. DG: They always sing "Good golly miss Molly" and sometimes around Christmas I get "Have a Molly Jolly Christmas" even though that's not what it actually says.  I feel like there's another I'm forgetting.

    Chole - Chloroform or Chlorine

    Kieren - Keyring

Mandy - always the Barry Manilow song

I apologise if anyone has these names but it's my little weird quirk.  Sorry :(

DH and I have tossed around the name Jude for if we someday have a son and while I love the name I don't want everyone to sing as soon as they hear the name.

Anyform or bella reminds me of this evil girl in college who used to refer to herself in the thirs person as bella and in every dog class there has also been at least 1 or 2 dogs named bella.

@skyeatnight: To add onto Mandy, when I hear Lola I always think "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl" from Copacabana.  We actually named my mom's dog that because we enjoy singing that to her.

I once met a Donald and all I could think of was Donald Duck.

When a Barbara asks to be called Barbie, I think of the doll and compare them to it.

@mandb122: Molly seems to be such a popular name in my office for people and their dogs.  Have no idea why.  I always loved the name.

One girl has a daughter called Honey.  Another co-worker has a daughter named Angel.  I just wonder how seriously these girls will be taken later in life.  I can't imagine if they were lawyers how "Honey/Angel will be with you in moment" would quite work.

Any Honey's or Angels out there that can let me know.

@mandb122- That was my younger dog's shelter name. A lot of people share names with dogs. DH's niece's name was the number 1 dog name last year and apparantely when I named my dog it was the name DH's sister had always wanted to name her daughter lol. I guess it doesn't help that they hate me and hate dogs haha

There was a poor little girl in my son's daycare when he was younger named Muffin. The phrase my name is Muffin and I know nuffin kept coming to mind when her name was mentioned. And no that was not a nickname :(

Stella - A Streetcar Named Desire and Marlon Brando yelling "STELLA!"

I actually named one of my cars Stella. So if I couldn't find my car in the parking lot, I would have a reason to recreate that scene.

But I love the name, and am considering if it's okay to name a kid the same thing I named my car . . .

@Storm0075: oddly, I didnt think of Sweet Caroline when I think of Caroline, and I'm from Boston!!  Im like @galloway111, I associate names with people I've known more than songs, probably cause I'm not a big song person.

Angie makes me think of the Rolling Stones song.

Amanda is a Waylon Jennings song.

Jessica/ Jesse makes me hear "Jesse's Girl" (not sure how it crossed-over into Jessica, aside from being a nickname)

we were loving the name dominic, but every time we told people they always sang dominic the donkey (the italian christmas donkey). Considering that my due date is December 29th and there's an actual possibility he could be born on Christmas, it might not be the best name choice. I actually didnt ever associate the two, so maybe it's an east coast thing?

I do love the name caroline, but I always think of the song.

@Mrs. Spring: Honey as a nurse works well and for some reason.  I think the name would be quite comforting but I would be slightly concerned, initially, if this were my lawyer.  I'm honestly not that shallow as to assume you are only as good as your name - but first impressions and all that.  Clearly your Great Aunt was a very successful woman so it just goes to show you :)

@pinkshoes: Maybe because you hear it so often you don;t think of it right away. I am from Baltimore so for our baseball it is "O" in the national anthem :)

@totheislnds: I don't remember Muffin Sangria. But they came up with some funny names in that show...lol.

@mschampagne: I know an Italian boy named Dominic and never made the association until now...I will not be able to get it out of my mind next time I see him...lol.

So this is kind of funny because I don't know the song associated with these lyrics, but when I was a kid I read a book where one of the characters mocked a girl named Carolina. In the book they taunted her with song lyrics, "Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning" and it has stuck in my head ever since!

@skyeatnight:  I think names can make a difference, but I also think some people just own the name and make it fit, despite the circumstances.

I do think I would have just as hard a time (initially) with a lawyer named "Tiffany," though.  Tiffany always reminds me of the 80's pop star!

Sheldon always makes me think of When Harry Met Sally

"No, you did not have great sex with someone named Sheldon. A Sheldon can do your income taxes, if you need a root canal, Sheldon's your man... but humpin' and pumpin' is not Sheldon's strong suit. It's the name. 'Do it to me Sheldon, you're an animal Sheldon, ride me big Shel-don.' Doesn't work."
