There have been multiple threads started about which names we'd like to use for our future children, and even some on more unique names we've heard about, but this thread is a little different--are there any names you'd like to name your children, but can't?
I'm not talking about names that you may like but DH/FI/SO/etc. have vetoed, but the ones that you really love, but are unable to choose, because of rhyming with your last name, or something of that nature.

For me, it's definitely Jillian Elyse--or more specifically, just Jillian. My future last name, and 'Jill' rhyme, so it's a total no-go. This irks me, because I've loved that name for years, and I'm so not ready to let go of it! :P

My favorite boy's name has always been William. However DH's last name is Showers. I can just see kids calling him Willy Showers...so no go on that one Frown

I also really like the name Lucas, but two of DH's cousin's named their children that within the last year.

I love the name Preston for a boy but my sister has dibbs on Weston, so it will be too matchy.

I have loved the name Jackson for so long but now it is just too popular.

DH and I have a few names picked out for when the time comes but we are not telling a soul because we don't want everyone else to pick it.

I love the name Mallory, but my sister had a really bad roommate who ruined it for me. It was at the top of my list forever, but it's erased now.

oh I thought of another.  I loved the name piper as a middle name, but now with pippa I have a feeling it will get popular.  Plus DH was like "meh" when I mentioned the name.

I LOVE LOVE Lynnlee for a girl, but my new last name ends in "ley" so it's too rhyme-y. I'm kinda upset because it was pretty original :(

    @brighteyedgirl:

Hmm....for me if we have a second child our options will be pretty limited. Both FI and I have names that begin with M. His last name ( soon to be mine) also starts with an M. Our daughter's name begins with yep you guessed it, an M. Her name is Mikaia, we just loved the name cuz it's a female version of FI's, pretty and unique. So we've pretty much made it so if we have another we need an M name or they'd totally be the odd one out. Lots of cute girl names with M (I love the name Mischa) but hardly any I like for boys. Maybe we won't have another to avoid this, lol. Also I always wanted to give my daughter the middle name Paris after my mom, that's her name and she was born there. Well it sounds totally awful and slightly rhymes with FI last name so I was unable to do that.

I like the name Lee, for either a boy or a girl because it is a family name, but my husband has a cousin named that so it is out. :(

I love Archer, but it super doesn't work with FIs last name, same with anything that ends in an 'S' sound... with our last name it sounds like you have a lisp. Boo.

FI also has a HUGE family, so a lot of names are already used and we'd like to avoid using any first or 2nd cousin names.

Oliver was my abosolute #1 pick for a boy before I met FI and encountered his farm full of Oliver brand tractors. Seriously, what are the chances? He says we can still use, but it feels weird to me.

Nicholas was ruined for me because of an awkward situation with his FBIL being named the father of a kid, who had his last name because of it, and this was his name. Mother has since retracted paternity and changed kid's last name, but again, we'll always know there was another Nicholas Samelastname and the entire bizarre-o situation that surrounded it.

    FSIL took dibbs on James.

I loved Jacob since like 2000, but then those blasted Twilight movies came out, it skyrocketed in popularity and is a total no-go.

I think that's it. The hardest part is convincing FI my name style isn't too weird!

We LOVED the middle name August when we were talking about TTC.  But now I am due in August and it just seems weird to me- so we went with another name.

My last name is the same as a family on a popular 90's tv show, so everyone keeps telling me to use those names. Luckily I don't like them anyway.

    @artbee: Oooh, guessing game. Seinfeld?

Edit: Oh, never mind, I read it too quickly - I thought you said it was the same as the name of the sitcom itself.

Back when DH and I were just friends, (the instance when I "knew" I liked him) we were talking about flowers and stumbled upon a particular flower that I especially liked out of all the ones he had me look at that was native to his hometown. I knew back then, that that would be our future baby's name, even though we were only friends.

Fast forward a few years, we were a couple, and I met his sister. She is not my favorite person. The name is a part of her name.

@thewheelsonthebus: I also love Archer ( I actually really like most -er names that come from occupations, ie; Fisher, Archer, Thatcher, Catcher), but I am terrified they are going to be the "next thing" like the -an / -en names are now. I am really crossing my fingers over here that they won't because they sound great with our last name.

My great grandmothers names were/are Lillian and Sophia.(GG Shophia is still alive at 96) DH and I both love them but we know about 4 Lilly's including one of his cousins and one of mine. So thats a no go. I find myself shying away from Sophia because I have a Facebbok friend who is always talking about her daughter sohpia and it really eerks me plus it's super popular . We will see.

I've always loved the name Victor, but it rhymes with our last name. I even considered tacking on a second name like the french tradition...Victor-Vaughn...Victor-Henry. But I hate it.

I also loooove the name Henry, but my cousin named her son that and I don't want to seem like I'm copying her.

Our last name ends in "-er" and I feel that other "-er" first names sound weird with it.  I didn't have any in particular that I've always liked or anything, but I do plan to avoid "-er" names when naming our future children.

DH LOVES Adam, but I'm pretty meh about it. We equally love James, Claire, Katherine and Lily, but we have very good friends named James and Clara (too close for us), my mom is Kathryn (and it would start a war in my family) and I have a niece named Lily. Jackson was up on our list, but is too popular now.

Sadly, one of the downfalls of teaching is that you develop an insanely long list of names you will never, ever name your children!    Currently, Henry is the name that I used to love but now can't say without an involuntary cringe.   FI's ok with that though as he wasn't overly sold on the name to begin with.

I love names that begin with a P, but alas our last name begins with a P and we cannot give a future child the initials PP. So yup, those are all out.

My guess for Artbee's last name- Brady. Was that a popular 90's show? I recall watching it but maybe they were repeats by the time I was growing up?

I've always loved Irish names, but DH's last name is very typically Jewish, and I just can't see sending out invitations to the bar mitzvah of little Seamus Silverstein or something like that.

Ah, yes. I had always loved the name Madelyn nn Mady...FI's last name is M__sey. Yeah. Oh well. Lol.

Also, love the name Elizabeth and FI dated an Elizabeth. :/ Also like Bridget....bitchy co-worker killed my love of that name. *sigh*

As far as boy names, I haven't been heartbroken over not being able to use one UNLESS an "ex-friend" of mine uses the name I love. Just can't bring myself to do it. She's a b*tch. Lol.

I always wanted to name a daughter Mary ___ (insert shortened version of middle name, such as Jo), but, at the end of the day, her first and last name would rhyme.  No bueno.

And since I'm a teacher, I have a slew of names that won't be touched...luckily, I didn't like most of them to begin with.

For one, I now have a super popular last name and it just so happens that my favorite two first names would give my kids the same name as a popular female singer and a famous runner.

Two, I am not a big fan of alliteration names and so all of the names that start with the letter "J" are out.

Three, both husband and I have names that start with an "R" so those names are out too, because I don't want to start that trend with kids and then have to decide to follow or break it.

My FI loves the name Victoria and I am not a fan, so that is vetoed.

I love the name Chandler for a girl but FI hates it so that's out.

And I love my last name as a first name should we have a boy, I thought it would be cool since I'm giving up my last name when I get married.  BUT our friends just named their baby boy this so it's a no go
