What kind of stuff are you looking in to doing? Are you mainly wanting to sight see during the day or are you interested in to going out on the town at night too? Downtown on Broadway or on West End are probably the best places to stay or if you don't mind a little bit of a drive the Opryland Hotel is absolutely amazing.
I personally love second avenue (and the surrounding streets) both in the daytime and at night time. It's a little touristy (especially the shops), but somehow it's totally Nashville.

FH and I are thinking of spending our honeymoon in Nashville. We will be there the end of June/1st of July. What would you recommend doing/seeing while we're there? Would it be worth it to stay downtown or in another area?
