National novel writing month (November) is almost here! I was just curious if any other bees were getting in on the action?

My fiance has been saying he was going to do this for 2 years and just hasn't. Well this year I told him I would do it with him, just to give him some motivation and help him keep going.

If you want more information you can google Nanowrimo. Should take you straight to the website!

I really want to but I'm not sure if I'm going to have time with it being the last month of school!  I've wanted to for years and years just to do it!

My husband's been preparing for it since last year!  He's been working on story ideas, basic plot lines, etc...  I'm super excited to read his finished product; I think it's going to be really interesting.  :)

@ Stassney - Have you two picked story ideas yet?  My husband's is about the year 2012 and all the different conspiracy theories about the end of the wrold.

I did it last year (though not completed Frown), but don't think I will be able to this year. We're moving on the 10th - which is 10 days into it - and based on last year, I know that when I fall behind a couple days, it just piles up. You have to re-divide your daily quota, and it gets more and more daunting... bleh.

I donno though. Maybe. I'll have to recalculate and see if it might work, counting for maybe 3 weeks instead of 4, just to be safe.

Last year's idea was super dorky. Kind of a young-adult fantasy. I thought it was cute, but I mean... one of the main characters was a garden gnome. Seriously. I don't know that I should be trusted to come up with a decent storyline.

@Mrs. Spring - Well since my fiance has been wanting to do this for a couple of years he still wants to stick with his original story idea. He has notebooks full of notes and ideas. He hasn't told me much but seems kind of like an indie romantic comedy.. lol

Apparently the man in the story gets frustrated with his life and just packs up his stuff and drives.. and wherever his gas tank runs out he stays. So he ends up like 700 miles from home, gets a job as a cook in a roadside diner and falls in love with one of the waitresses.. I think those are the basics.. lol

I on the other hand have barely thought about it.

I know I need to get on it, since I basically only have until tomorrow at midnight to come up with an idea.

    Eek! NaNoWriMo! I totally forgot!

The first time I did it (two, three years ago?) I made it, but I haven't done it since. But I really want to. But I don't have the time. :(

...But I could do it, if I really wanted to. I have a story that would be perfect; my sister is expecting a baby and I'm going to write a book for my future niece/nephew. Obviously there's a deadline on this project since she's giving birth in April, so NaNo would be a great jump start.

For those who are doing it the first time:

    1. Editing means death. If you go back to reread or shine up what you've written, You. Will. Fail. Resist the temptation! Turn back from that rocky path! Deny the Inner Editor at all costs!

    2. Try to write a little more than average every day. When I did it, I averaged 2,000 a day and had a little leeway when things got hairy in the third week.

    3. You will reach a point where your words are exhausted. Just keep writing. The story will do something for you.

Good luck, participants! Keep us updated!

I did it several years ago and loved it! However, I don't think I'll be able to this year - too many committments at work. But go Nano! I'm using november to try and get my writing chops back with shorts stories instead. Can't wait to follow everyone's progress!

YESS!! I'm so glad you posted this. I've been Nano-ing since 2004! I have 0 time to Nano this month, but I'm going to try anyway. We should keep a running Nano blog for inspiration, tips, and updates!

I did lt last year and failed miserably!!! I'm a copywriter by day so sometimes my creativity is burnt out after work! I'd love to do it this month but excuses, excuses.. we're moving... sigh!! Best of luck to all who do it!

Go go gidgett writer! That's an awesome start!

I'm still thinking about doing NaNo this month...at 11:00 on the first night! Whoops! If I want to do it, I'll need to jot out 800 words tonight on top of the 1200 previously written. Decisions, decisions...

Gidget you're awesome.  I'm trying to work on an actual school paper that's due in 2 weeks and hoping that school stuff doesn't take up so much time that I can't NaNo!

Woot, gidgett!  My husband also got his first two chapters done.  I'm very proud.  :)I think when he is completely done, he's going to post his work on GoodReads.  Apparently, there is a peer review tool where other people will be able to read his work and give him feedback about his completed his novel.  It's really cool!

Ooooh Nano! I do love thee so. I did nano for 5 years (I think)- last year was the first year I hadn't done it. I met the boy who broke my heart freshman year of college there... he's out of the pictures, obviously, but it hasn't been the same since.

I have this really obnoxious habit of DELETING everything I write for nano. It makes my parents INSANE because they want to read it, but I figure I write it only for me, so I should be able to delete it if I want to.
