There are some Portland Photographers that will travel that will most likely work with your buget. I have worked with Smatt Photography a few times and they do great work. I'm not totally sure on their prices but I know they do a lot of traveling for weddings.
I loved my photographer -- Debra Gerth
She was $275 per hour + $300 for a DVD of all of the photos. Our wedding was in Seattle, so I'm not sure if she would charge a travel fee for Tacoma or not. She was fantastic -- I love our photos and she was so great to work with, really friendly and easy going. I actually got comments back from guests about how much they liked her.
Good luck!
Ask Mrs. Cherry Pie. She shot my rehearsal dinner pictures and they are amazing.
Karen shot a wedding we attended this weekend, and her prices seem very reasonable. Not sure if she will charge for traveling to Tacoma, though.
ARGGHHHHH Blocked at work. Have to wait til I get home. Miserable corporate web blocking. Can't a girl plan a wedding at work anymore?!?!? ;) haha
I don't know if you ended up going with cherry pie or not, but I do have another recommendation. I have a friend in the Chehalis area who started up his business about a year ago. Unfortunately, I can't direct you to his site, because he recently took it down to work on it. However, I do have myspace and twitter links
Not sure if you found what you needed yet but...
I had a strict budget and specific expectations for our photographer too - I put an ad on Craigslist and had DOZENS of people write me back! Post what your looking for in a photog, your price range, and wedding date and let the bids come in! (I posted my ad in "Gigs") I found a wonderful gal who bargained with me just because she knew there was probably plenty of competition slamming my inbox. It worked out great! I do enough web searching for all my wedding planning, searching for a photographer wasn't something I wanted to do! So I let them come to me! Good Luck!
I booked Stacy Jacobsen for my wedding in May - she is down in Edgewood (east of Tacoma)

I really love her work and her price is more than reasonable.
check her out :D
Thanks Ladies for all the great recommendations...still haven't nailed one down....so still open to suggestions!!

She is an acquaintance of mine who just moved to Seattle and is building her photography business up there. I haven't used her personally, but have seen some of her work.
Check out Angela & Evan Photography, www.aeimagery.com. They're fantastic, and well priced. We just had our engagement shots done with them on Sunday and they are a lot of fun (a newly wed couple too!)
Check out kellilynn photography. We just recently received my sister's photos back and she did an amazing job and was very professional at the wedding. She took over 500 photos of the reception alone and I think my sister ended up with closer to a 1000 overall; all of which she has the rights to and will be sent on a disc. The best part, it was only $1000 total which was for about 8 hours. I am planning on having her for mine as well. She has a great base package which you can build on and customize.
If you're still looking, check out Jaqui Shumate. She's got kind of an edgy feel that my fiance and I loved, but her style isn't for everyone. Check her out http://www.jaqshu.blogspot.com/. She was around $1500 for us too.
Thanks Bees! We ended up going with Heather Mann Photography in Puyallup. She was more than reasonable and I'm confident we made an excellent choice!

Hi all! Coming to the hive for some help...
I've been searching high and low for a Seattle/Tacoma area photographer that will stay within my budget of $1500. I would like 5 hours of photography and the digital rights as well as all pictures on DVD. You would think this is doable, but the photographers I've contacted seem to be more around the $2k mark for these services. The photographers I have found to be within my budget...well, I'm not sure I *LOVE* their style. One in particular only had 2 pictures of a bride (!!) in their entire online wedding portfolio. Most pics were of details, candles, flowers etc.
Help! Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!
