    I'll be posting this in the SB and LA threads, since ... well ... there are two different boards for those areas!

    ~~~~~
    I need recommendations for a great seamstress in the SB/LA area. I live in NorCal, but my wedding is in Camarillo. All of my FIL's are in Ojai or Ventura, so I don't mind driving in either direction, but I WILL be keeping my dress at my MOH's house for the duration of our engagement.
    Bees - do you have any recommendations for me? I will also be googling and yelping and fb-ing for info, but I know I can trust the hive to point me in the right direction!
    Thanks in advance Laughing
    Yes!  My seamstress is awesome!  Her name is Renee, (pronounced ree-nee).  She had great suggestions for my dress and great prices.  At the same time she didn't try to sell me on anything that wasn't necessary.  She even threw in some things for free. She's even making my veil for way cheaper than similar veil I've found on line.
    Here is the link to her yelp review which has her number.  http://www.yelp.com/biz/in-stitches-woodland-hills
    Hi Godiva,
    I actually grew up in Ojai and I now live in Camarillo.  What exactly are you looking for?  Some one to make a dress or do alterations?
    There is a great place in Oxnard that made my bridesmaid dress (and the dresses for 2 other weddings I was in).  The language spoken there is primarily Spanish; however, I have usually been able to get by with very limited Spanish.
    There is also a woman in Thousand Oaks.  She did alterations on my husband's tux.  She comes highly recommended from a few different sources.  The dress shop where I bought my dress outsources some of their work to her when they are over loaded.  Here is her website www.carmenalterations.com
    Good luck!  Let me know if you have any more questions.‎
    @MzMarzipan: Hi! My FI actually grew up in Ojai, too, and our wedding will be in Camarillo. Small world!!
    I ordered my dress in FL, and just got it a few weeks ago. I haven't had a chance to try her on yet, but I'm tiny and will probably need alterations. Thanks for the references, I'll have to check them out!
    PS - Congrats on your first anniversary :)
    @Sn2bMrs.B: FH and I lived in Ventura together for a few years before moving up here!!! I wonder if we know each other?!
    I haven't had a chance to meet with the suggestions PPs gave, but feel free to try them out! I don't know if I'll be down for a wedding-related trip until January, and that's probably cutting it too close for you ;)
    If in SB - try Mercedes Trump.  She does incredible work and is fun to boot!
    I used Elizabeth at Just Lovely Fashion Alteration in Ventura (and got married in Camarillo!) and she did a great job on my lace appliqué dress. She also did some alterations for a couple of my bridesmaids. She's pretty affordable and really sweet. Definitely recommend!
    @Meowkers:  My fiance and I went to Ventura this past weekend to do a bunch of wedding stuff, and I went to Renee for my dress fitting!!! I had booked another appointment with Mercedes in SB, but after leavingRenee's, I called to cancel. I love her, and am so excited she's doing my alterations! :-D
    To all the ladies that gave me suggestions - thank you SO MUCH for your help. It was hard to narrow it down, especially with the seamstresses that had such great Yelp reviews. Again, thank you for helping me out!
    I just have to come back and promote Renee (pronounced ree-nee) some more. She is absolutely FanTasTic!
    This is a list of everything I've had done through her:
    purchased veil
    altered (shortened) veil
    added hoop to veil for hanging
    added bustle (maybe 10?)
    altered top and bottom of hoop
    removed flowers from dress
    put half of the flowers on a safety pin (removable for when dress is bustled)
    put other half of the flowers on a hair clip (for after my veil comes off)
    sewed cups into my dress
    will be steaming my dress
    ALL OF THAT for $310! And she's super nice, but will tell you like it is when you need to hear it. I want to wrap her up and take her home haha :)
