I wouldn't go so far as to call it tacky, but if I were to catch it I would be a little bummed if they weren't real. I think going small and simple, a few flowers and a little greenery would be the better way to go. It likely wouldn't be more expensive either and something you could DIY pretty easily.
I would be a bit disappointed, too. Usually, the bouquet is just half a dozen or so roses hand-tied with some green. The cost should be no where near the cost of the bride's bouquet. If it is, shop somewhere else.
My florist includes it for no extra charge, so I can't imagine they are too expensive. Ask your florist if they'll throw it in. But I agree with the other posters, that it isn't tacky, but the "catcher" my be a little disapointed. If it's too expensive with your florist, I would have someone (BM/Personal Attendant/DOC) get some flowers at the grocery store the morning of your wedding and tie it together with some ribbon. In my opinion, something simple is better than something fake!
Is it tacky to have a fake toss bouquet? My bouquet and bridesmaid's bouquets are real.
