First, I wouldn’t hesitate to call the band manager if you have questions. They’re working for you, so you should feel comfortable with everything.

Regarding the timeline, I think if they say they will be there in time to start playing at 6:30, I would trust them. worst case scenario, if they don’t get there in time, is there an alternative to play music from an ipod or something until they get there?

One thing you might want to do is not spread everything out so much. I’ve heard that some brides just like to get all the formalities (dances, cake cutting, tosses) out of the way so they don’t have to worry about getting it done throughout the night. I’d just do the bouquet and garter toss right after the cake cutting or right before your last dance. If the band does lots of weddings, they should be able to go with the flow and read the atmosphere and just work with it.

I would definitely express to the band manager that you’re worried about the timing.  If he says 6pm and leaves with enough time for some random act like an accident or traffic then you should be alright.  Have they given you any references to speak to?  Maybe you can ask them what their experience was.  If you really like the band I wouldn’t write them off just yet.

I’m a bit confused about the timeline, when you said the buffet line starts.  Does that mean your guests will begin plating their food?  Or that the staff begins setting the food up?
