My FI and I will be in Newport Beach for a friend’s wedding in August, and coincidentally, my wedding photographer will also be in the area. He has offered a free engagement shoot, and because of the distance (he in San Fran, me in Florida) I didn’t think I’d originally get to partake. Now that he’ll be in the OC at the same time as me, I don’t want to miss the chance.
I’ve been brainstorming places to visit for an engagement shoot, and thought maybe Balboa Pier (the ferris wheel, merry go round, etc), or Laguna Beach. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I want to ask the bride, but I know she has bigger things to worry about right now. I thought Disney had a ferris wheel on the water, but now I’m confused about where I saw those pictures. Since I go to Disneyworld here in Florida a lot, I don’t want to pay for admission to one in Cali (I thought they had a downtown pier thing, who knows).
Any locations would be so appreciated! I’d like to keep things within a half hour of the hotel, near John Wayne.

Well, the ferris wheel you are thinking about is actually at California Adventure which is actually just like an admission into the park, so you would have to pay admission.
Balboa Pier is a fun idea, my fiance where going to do it there before finally deciding on Angel’s Stadium.
There are some great places in the Laguna area, I think there is another Orange County post here that lists some great places, I would check that out.

Balboa sounds like a great idea. If you like Disneyland, you can always take some pictures in Downtown Disney without having to pay admission. Theres also some gorgeous places in Long Beach along the Harbor. Theres the lighthouse there too, its very pretty.

I think i’ve settled on Balboa – i like the idea of getting to play with some arcade games etc while also having the option of the beach setting behind us. Thanks for your input!

I have seen GORGEOUS engagement photos taken at Downtown Disney in the evening (it’s like the twinkle lights were *made* for it. ;). Have fun!
