so today my  photographer was chosen by the company we booked with. The way it works is that they pair up with a photographer they feel meets your "style"

Also, for some reason it kinda bothers me that she photographs other things other than weddings. like even nude people.Am i over thinking here?

So heres some info on her...

    facebook

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Squaw-Valley-CA/Heidi-Huber-Photography/112403337674?v=wall

    her site

    http://heidihuberphotography.com/

(obviously they show you the good pixs so how would i know if shes good?)

    http://portfolios.studioblue.com/index.php?id=febbecd8a0&action=portfolio

I didnt find many reviews on her either

I think her pictures are awesome. It wouldn't bother me that she takes pictures of other things; nude or not. How is she supposed to make money when it isn't wedding season, if she strictly takes only wedding pictures....

I think she looks great! Honestly...I would be honest if I thought she was a bad photographer.

You are lucky to get Heidi Huber. She is an amazing photographer and she is very consistent with her work. I have seen her full wedding takes and it is absolutely gorgeous. She has gotten testimonies from happy brides and have overall shot more than 200 weddings with this company.

I am saying this because she is my photographer. I was so happy I was matched with her and I can't wait to see my amazing pictures.

If you're uncomfortable about the other types of photography she does, you should be reassigned to someone that emanates that type of work that you like and feel comfortable with. I think it's awesome she's outside the box and photographs different subjects instead of the expected family portraiture or children's portraiture. Do you like her wedding photography from the sites you've listed? Do you like her use of light and positioning and moments? Does her work make you feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside or are you questioning the process or maybe there's just something that doesn't feel right. You want to be comfortable in front of your wedding photographer. You want to feel relaxed and you can be yourself and not be smiling for the camera for 2 hours out of your wedding day. You want to enjoy the momentous day of getting married.

It's up to you what you feel comfortable with. I personally very much enjoy her photography on the sites you've listed.

I actually Googled "Heidi Huber Photography reviews" and this is what I found.

    Good Luck with your decision!

Best way to work out what a photographer is like consistently is to check out the blog. You're right, the website is a portfolio and will have the best work, but the blog is like an ongoing report of what work is being produced each week, this will give you a better idea.

Looks like you picked a winner!

I am a professional photographer so photography is the biggest thing for me at my wedding - I'm spending more on that than on my dress by far!!  I have a friend who is doing my wedding for me.  She also does a lot of fine art including a lot of nude models.  I actually see that as a positive thing because she is extremely artistic.  Most artistic photographers also do some sort of fine art work on the side either for work or just to get their creativity out.  It's not like she is shooting porn - her models just happen to be nude sometimes.

From what I see on your photographer's site she also looks very artistic and is really able to capture moments not just snap pictures.  That is a wonderful thing to have in a wedding photographer - because it is the little moments that you want captured on your big day.

That being said, meet with her and get a feel for what she does and what she is like.  If her or her style of photography don't match your vision of your wedding photography, find someone else.  It is YOUR day and YOUR photos and you should look at them fondly for many years to come!

As a professional photographer who shoots weddings, there's nothing wrong with having other areas of interest in addition to shooting weddings.  I LOVE shooting weddings but I also love doing things with families and even artsy nudes.  Each area allows a different result and any good photographer is going to constantly work at trying new situations to improve their skill.  I wouldn't count her out just because she does nude shoots.  It's very common.

Her pictures are gorgeous! Maybe you should schedule engagment pictures first to give her a trial run and see what you think?

Although I am in the camp of "Go with what you're comfortable with", I think you were over-thinking the fact that she takes more than just wedding pictures.  In my opinion, that would just showcase how much of an artist she truly is.

And if anyone is comfortable being naked around her while she takes photos, I think that should speak volumes about her professionalism and personality, don't you? =)

Thats just my viewpoint on the situation, and for the record, her pictures look great =)

Wow - what a bitchy, mean reaction! I can't believe she resigned because you asked for an opinion about her work - which by the way I can tell you is not that great, so you had a close call. The pics on her site are so heavily photoshopped it made my eyes water! Often the sign of an insecure photographer who has trouble getting good shots in the first place, and then 'jazzes' them up in post production. I think you had a close shave there - would you really want such a diva as your wedding photographer??? Unprofessional and NOT cool...

It's probably a good thing you aren't having her as your photographer. You do want someone you absolutely love their work from the beginning. From what I've read about her and the client reviews, it appears she really wants her couples to connect with her work. With you questioning her photography and her subject type, she most likely doesn't feel comfortable with someone who doesn't love her work from the beginning.

Hopefully you'll get a photographer that you KNOW that person will do a great job with what you are looking for with your wedding photography. It's too bad it wasn't a good fit for both of you.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

You DO NOT want a photographer who only shoots weddings. Shooting other subject matter helps a photographer flex his/her creative muscle and keeps their vision fresh. Imagine if you ate only pizza for every meal, you would get pretty sick of it and it would start to taste bland. Same with shooting weddings. Most of my clients are thrilled at the variety of subjects I cover as well as with my background in photojournalism.

In the end you have to be confortable with your wedding photographer on whatever levels are most important to you- some couples care only about price, while others care most about style, and yet others budget is all that matters. When it comes down to it, just make sure you remain true to yourself and understand what your most important wants and needs are with your wedding photographer. After all, the wedding photos will be the one lasting thing from your wedding (except your love of course :) ) that you'll look back from years down the road so its a very big and very personal decision. There are lots of great photographers out there!

    Hope this helps!
