The City Bakery is great! All their cakes taste amazing and I've only heard good things about them! You should def. check them out :) I'm an Asheville native if you have any more questions- I would be glad to help!
What about Cakes by Jane?? someone told me to check them out.
I'm from Asheville and getting married here - I would STRONGLY recommend Short Street Cakes! Jodi, the owner, has been amazing to work with and her flavors are out of this world. The website is http://www.shortstreetcakes.com/ ...call and talk to her about your needs and I'm sure she'll be able to work with you! Not only was I (along with most of my bridesmaids and parents) very impressed with her at the tasting but my planner and caterer have worked with her numerous times as well. Hope this helps!
I just ran into beautiful Cakes on Flickr at Tiffany's Baking Co. http://www.flickr.com/photos/23145306@N08/ Her prices seem reasonable and her cakes Gorgeous! http://www.tiffanysbakingco.com/contact.html
Thank you bees!!! We ended upgoing with Cakes by Jane. They sent us 11 cake samples via UPS. All arrived very well packed and still super moist. And, OMG! I have never had southern cream cheese pound cake before and was actually quite skeptical of it for a wedding cake. BUT each flavor was SO good, it was hard to choose which ones we liked the best. They did not charge us for mailing these and they arrived very quickly.
So far, definitely pleased with their service. Going over the details when we visit in April.
Look for a local restaurant that makes great desserts. i did that and found out the one i looked into makes wedding cakes as well!

I live in Roanoke, VA so am I'm having to look most things up on-line or call. We're getting married on 10-10-10 and I'm finding out so is everyone else, apparently. I didn't think I'd be calling bakers 9mths in advance and they would say "sorry, we're booked that day". My budget is around $200 for about 60 slices (guest list about 60-80). The Sisters McCullen was the one thats already booked and the Asheville Cake Co. says the min for wedding cakes is 100 servings. I want a pretty simple cake-but want it to look professional too.
Any suggestions for less expensive-but good quality- bakers in the area??
