I think the paint is what is important, not stamp versus stencil. Almost any craft paint works on wood.
So Is there such a thing as letter stencil for them? There has to be right?
Maybe print something out in the font you like, and trace it? You can paint it in later.
@Lindsay12.31.2010: So how do I trace it is what I don't know... I am completely illiterate to this... How do I trace it on the wood?
I can't remember where I saw this now (blog post or DIY post), but you print off a copy of the text you want in the size you want it, and then you color on the BACK of that sheet of paper in pencil so it is totally black. Then you put it black side down on the wood and trace around the font you want. The lead will transfer to the wood just where you traced!
You can print out the word you want in the font you like, then shade the back of the paper with lots of pencil. Then place the piece of paper against the wood and use the pencil again to "trace" the letters really hard. The pencil shading on the back of the paper should then transfer to the wood and then you can easily paint the letters. I hope that explanation makes sense...
@earrings: Bless you!! Guess I will be doing a DIY post on this lol!!! So if I want to paint the thing black totally I should paint the wood black first and then trace, right? Heck I have silver spray paint, Maybe I'll use that honestly and then have the letters purple or black from there.... Use what I have right lol!!!
@CorgiTales: Looks like you're right!!!!!
Soo... will an ink pad work for the stamp? I think I may use my chandeliers to stamp on the sides in black.....
I'm here for ya girl! Here's my advice. Use DaFont to find the font you want if you don't already have it, and then open a word doc and print off in the font you want and the phrase you want on the signs.
I'd then print it out in landscape and then if needed blow it up a bit. Then I'd carefully cut out the letters from the paper using a cutting tool and then trace it onto the sign using a pencil (I like the natural light wood look btw) and then fill it in with paint.
Or you could call your local papersource and ask for help. They have great ideas on stuff like this. Or at the michael's. You might still know some folks there.
But that's what I'd do. Bet it will look great!
@bellenga: Gotcha girlie!!!! I am just using Edwardian... Now errr what should I say... Should I say M's-H's wedding (our last name?)
Something like this... except I would use a - instead of the /

I think an ink pad would work fine for the stamp. And yes, if you want the sign black then you should paint it black first- but the silver paint you have might make it easier coz the shading will show up better on a paler background :)
@earrings: That's what I am thinking too. I am 21 days out (can you believe that sh.t?!) and i saw the picket fence posts and the light bulb went off... especially because I wanted to buy these signs and I have like 50 posts! LOL I will have signs from the freaking interstate leading the way
orrrr at least from the street corners
@crebre80: lol. That's probably what I will be like 21 days out- still coming up with projects to do! Your signs will look awesome I am sure :)
@earrings: girl you have no idea!!! I am insane. I have changed my mind about things about a billion times, but this one will make a huge impact with costing very little. I mean my kids even have black acrylic paint from their projects that I will borrow. I am going to try to work on them today and finish them...
@bellenga:we'll see lol!!!! I am working with a client's mockups, etc right now as well.
I failed miserably at this... What type of pen should I use because I suck at the paint b. I will post pix tomorrow.
I figured it out!!!! It still will have to be redone because of all the screw ups (too long to put here so I wrote a blog post about it lol!!)

So my landlord was pulling down picket fences from the back of our house and I had an epiphany.. That's right! I want to do wedding sign's pointing the way...
Now my question is how in the heck do I make the font pretty on them? I am thinking pix like this from etsy seller funkifolkart
Or this in black from weddingbycolor love him first... I love the black to bring in a bit of glamour... I am hoping to find a damask stencil perhaps...
I have chandelier stamps but will they work on this? I think maybe I'll need more of a stencil?
