I am having an 11:30 outdoor ceremony at the same place as the brunch reception will be held. There is not going to be a “dance” for our guests, however I still want to have a first dance with my new husband. Would it be weird to have our outdoor ceremony and then after the minister anounces/introduces us as Mr. and Mrs. John Smith if he also then asks to have everyone take a seat while the new Mr. and Mrs. share their first dance? Weather provided, we’d really like to have our first dance outside but think it’s a little redundant to have people go inside, eat, then come back out for our dance. Thoughts?

IMO I think you are going to feel really awkward if everyone sits down to watch you dance. I think the first dance is a little different because people are eating, drinking, etc. and its the opening of the dance floor. Is there somewhere inside you could have it instead?

The only thing that may be a problem is: When were you planning on taking all of you B&G, family, & Bridal Party pics?
We had a morning wedding & brunch reception but had about 45 minutes before we “entered” or returned for the reception so that we could take pictures. When we entered we did do our first dance first (so everyone was sitting for our entrance & no eating had started), then ate, and then proceeded with the rest of the “reception standards”. Once you’re “at” the reception it may be hard to steal away to get those shots & if you wait till the end you may not have that same “fresh” look.
Otherwise if you have another plan for your pics I think that would work great and be a neat component you don’t normally see!
