Here's some ideas, I'm not sure if they fit the bill for you, but they're worth looking into:

Unfortunately, most of these wouldn't work for us because our guest list is too big, but I really love the historic estates with their beautiful gardens.
want to go a little north?

I'm having mine at the Cambridge Boat Club. You bring everything in yourself, and it's an hourly rate.
Try Springstep. It's in Medford, not metrowest. But the building is modern and beautiful and they don't care what kind of catering or alcohol situation you come up with - though you'll need a license for the alcohol if you do that yourself. We had our wedding there and it was awesome. Our total budget was 8-9k and they fit in just fine.
Try the Warren Conference Center in Ashland. My parents looked there without me and said it was beautiful, but better for a smaller, spring/summer wedding....sounds like you!
Try the Goethe-Institute in Boston. The inside is beautiful but parking is an issue.

Cambridge Multicultural. The space is beautiful and I had caterers giving me prices of $13k for food for 150 people...your's would half that or more...the rental fee is $5k though....but you can bring your own alcohol!
If you want to go as far as Worcester, my sister looked at Tuckerman Hall and absolutely loved it. It was out of her price range (Saturday wedding), but it might be worth a look for a Sunday. My sister ended up at Cyprian Keys Country Club in Boylston.
Its a little further north, but the Rockport Art Association is a GORGEOUS space, hardwood floors, close to the water, and rental fee is $1500. You barely need decorations because the space is so pretty, but you bring in everything else.
I second the Warren Center! I got married their this past fall and LOVED it! Talk to Erika. She was our wedding coordinator and was great! VERY reasonable prices!

Hi everyone,
As many of you, I have spent countless hours searching for venues/vendors for THE BIG DAY. However, I am having a really hard time staying within my proposed $20k budget for the entire wedding in the area without settling for a not-so-pretty space.
The wedding will have 80-90 people. It will be on May 27th (Sunday) of 2012). To fit in my budget, I am looking for a place that will allow me to bring in my own alcohol and will allow me to choose an inexpensive caterer. This means I want to spend approximately $11k for the ceremony and reception space, all equipment (tables, linens, etc), food, drink, staff, etc. OH and taxes/fees/services/etc. ALL INCLUDED in $11k.
Dream List: chandeliers (if possible), not ugly carpets, pretty ok lighting, preferably in the Metrowest area (Natick, Weston, Wellesley, etc)
Spaces I have loved but cannot afford: The Wang Theatre, Various Hotels on the water
Spaces that are closer to what I am looking for: Corinthian Hall in Melrose, MassHorticultural Society in Wellesley ($4500 JUST FOR THE RENTAL on a sunday! but includes chairs/etc)
PLEASE HELP, I am running out of time and dates are filling up fast. Thank you so much!!!!!!
