So the reception hall has these rather ugly old dark red banquet chairs with gold trim. Similar to this:
My color scheme is brown tablecloths with ivory accents. Should I drop the $200+ and get ivory chair covers or be smart and just stick with these suckers? I mean they’re chairs. Nobody really cares, right?
Any input as well as advice on where I can buy cheap chair covers would be greatly appreciated!

I think you need to think about exactly how you feel about them.
Really, when it comes down to it, once everyone is sitting down, they really won’t notice : HOWEVER – if you are wanting pictures of the setup before guests arrive.. it would really help bring everything together.
I personally DO notice chairs & prefer chair covers on ugly chairs .
I’m guessing you’re having around 90 guests since it would cost $200+ for chair covers?

yes guest list is about 90 – 100. those chairs are ugly. We are not having professional photos done.

I am replacing similar chairs at my venue with chiavari chairs (only because my rental vendor is giving me an awesome deal!!!)
If I wasnt going to be able to replace the actual chairs, then I was just going to get a chair sash and tie a bow at the top of the chair in the “loop” at top. That would dress the chair up a little bit and you dont have to mess with those pesky chair covers!!!
I dont know if youve ever assisted with putting chair covers on… but they are a PAIN!

Personally, I’d rather have ugly chairs than chair covers; I think chair covers look like giant pillow cases throw over chairs.

I have the same exact chairs in my venue and I am using plum/eggplant as my wedding color. Those chairs will not work against eggplant table linens. I have no choice but to cover them. if your colors will work with the chairs and not clash, its probably not a big deal.

You have a couple options, really.
You could rent differant chairs completely, which will cost a little bit more than chair covers.
Chair sleeves – there are ENDLESS possibilities with this, you could even find your own fabric and make them or get them made.
or something decorative like this :

I do think chair covers are a little ridiculous looking but I may have to resort to something. Not a huge fan of the red.. Just feel like it gets in the way of what I am trying to accomplish with brown and ivory.

I do think with your brown and ivory the red will def clash with it….thats jmo.
My vote would be to cover them! I love some of the options pp has listed. Those are gorgeous covers but will prob be pretty pricey!
