The old standby of cheeses, fruits, and veggies alwasys seem to be a hit.  For a more “upscale” take on this you can do exotic cheeses or something.

Your caterer probably has a list of apps or would be able to tell you the most common ones.

One thing that I am requiring we have at our cocktail hour is bacon wrapped dates. They are DELICIOUS and a little bit exotic.

Other hits usually are anything that’s a mini of a meal (i.e. mini quesadillas, mini burgers, pigs in blankets).

Also crabcakes or mini quiches.

Something cooler like a small cup of tomato gaspacho with a corn fritter on top could be good too.

We had a cocktail and canapés reception. This was our menu;

Pan-fried scallops in garlic butter and herb sauce
Mini fish and chips
Crab and chive tarts
Mini roast beef on Yorkshire puddings with horseradish sauce
Spring rolls with spicy dipping sauce
Goats cheese tarts with poppyseed mousse

Hope that helps! The big hits were definitely the scallops, fish and chips and roast beef.
