I finally put together a board of all the things we plan to include in our little mountain top wedding and I am having trouble narrowing down the colors. Do I really have to decide? I finally got it down to the bottom five colour dots you see in this picture (five and ivory) but I still want to include yellow and lime and a darker blue! Is this to many? Am I going to be blinding my guests with too many colors to look at?
any advice would be great right now…. thank you

I personally think it’s important to pick two main colors and then use the others as accent colors. If you use just two colors everything looks too matchy matchy but too many colors (more than five) it becomes too chaotic and overwhelming. I personally would stick with the five you’ve picked or substitute in another color if you like it better. I just think it looks unique and well put together when done that way. I think it’s also easier to do because having too many color options can overwhelm you as a bride.
I don’t think a true theme is absolutely necessary unless you really want it. But it’s important not to go overboard. I went to a lovebird themed wedding once and while the idea is cute they took it above and beyond. You can do a simple, generic theme like “romantic” and just use colors, fabrics and scents that create a romantic mood. I personally think broad, simplistic themes turn out much better.
But I think a theme and colors depend on the type of venue you are using.
We are waiting until we lock in our venue but we have two different options for colors.
One is wine and gray with accents of blush, ivory and black. The other is light blue and gray with accents of light yellow, light green and ivory.

@SweetHoneyBee: I think this is a good point.
8 colours is too many.

I was hoping that woudln’t be the case, but I do understand it. My mother was concerned that it would start looking like a wedding for rainbow brite. Which might be fun but is not exactly the intention. I am going to change the poll to include the focus color options… Thank you so much ladies

Since you changed the poll and I already voted I’ll give you my opinion as far as the colors go.
I personally like the light blue and green with bold accents of purple, orange and pink. But if you don’t like that option I would go for the purple and orange with accents of blue and green.

Your inspiration board is really pretty. So it looks like you’re leaning toward a rustic theme, then? I agree with the prior posters on trying to focus on 2 main colors and accent with other colors here and there. I think your Mom might have put too fine a point on it with the Rainbow Brite (I LOVED that show!) comment, but there is a hint of truth in it. My mind tends to lean toward complimentary colors on the color wheel. So maybe eggplant and yellow? Since your wedding is on a mountaintop, I would maybe leave lime green out. You’ll already have a lot of natural green, so that leaves you open to other colors! I also like the idea of the aqua paired with orange. I feel like that’s a scheme you don’t see to often and would really make your day more unique. Sorry, these are just my opinions, but I hope there was something useful in there…
