I was super regular before I went on BC back in college.  I’m 33 now and finally quit taking my pills.  It took a good 4 months to mostly regulate my cycles.  I had them range from 14 to 35 days.  I only ever was sure I ovulated on the last one, which is when I got pregnant.  So it might take some time, but mine at least evened out after a few months and started being “normal” with ovulating day 14, etc.  During those months I never had a period that was even normal, let alone heavy, either, and they used to be pretty heavy.

I went off the pill in February and didn’t get a real period for +3 months. Since then my cycles have been anywhere from 35-45 days. I went to my dr & did the normal blood tests checking for PCOS and basic tests for thyroid dysfunction. They didn’t show anything so my dr wouldn’t go any further and just told me not to worry and “it can take up to a year to regulate”….yea that wasn’t going to work for me. I found a naturopath who pushed further and it turns out I have a slightly under active thyroid (not enough for a medical dr to care but enough to affect my daily life) Since getting on thyroid meds my cycles have shorted by about a week but they’re stilly not “regular”.

We’re on our first cycle ttc.

Its not surprising that it takes some people a while to regulate. We spend years putting a pill into our body that essentially cuts off communication between all of our hormones and it takes a while for them to reestablish that connection! I know how hard it is to be patient, but it will happen. And if you dr isn’t providing the answer you need or won’t really look into the issue, find someone who will!

Weddingobsessed:  I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. 🙁

AFM I waited 7 long months for my cycle to return after a decade on bcp.  (My OB prescribed Provera around the halfway mark, and it did induce a withdrawal bleed, but unfortunately didn’t jump start my cycle.)  I started taking Vitex, and I’m convinced that’s what got things going again. We’re planning to start TTC in January.  I’m an outlier though, and you are already in better shape than I was!  Hang in there and ditto everything AOriver said!!

Weddingobsessed:  I’m the same! I was on BC for 11 years – the horrible strong one Diane35 (probably shouldn’t have been on it that long).  Thinking about TTC in another year or so, but wanted to get off the pill and rid my body of the hormones before TTC.  I had my last active pill on 5th July – got a light AF 9 weeks later, and haven’t had anything since!! I was very regular every 28-29 days before starting the pill 11 years ago.  I’m hoping my body is able to regulate its self.  I’ve also now got horrible greasy skin with breakouts, and my hair is shedding more than usual 🙁
