My FI and I were engaged at Lake Powell in Utah. Smack in the middle of the desert. For our escort “cards” for our reception we are writing each of our guests names on a sandstone red rock from Utah & writing the table number on the back. Similar to the picture below (We’re going to seal coat them first so they don’t fall apart).
I’ll be arranging the “escort rocks” on a few silver trays, and will have a framed photograph that was taken of us when we got engaged on the table as well. I also want to include a sign that says (in a cute way) what the rocks symbolize. But I can’t for the life of me figure out how to word it!
I’m thinking something like..
Over a year ago we decided to share our lives together & today is the first day of the rest of our life, please take a small piece of our history with you to remember this special day. Locate your name on a sandstone & find your table number on the reverse.
However I don’t like this particular wording, but just wanted to give you all what I’m thinking in my head. Any suggestions on possible wording? Or how to make this more simple & sound better? Thanks Bees!

Yes, thank you! I do like that wording for directing people to their seats. But I would really like to let everyone know why we are giving them rocks, like what they symbolize to us. But I can’t figure out just how to word it. All suggestions welcome!

Could you perhaps move the message to the menu card or another item that will be placed on the table for guests to read once they’ve been seated? Not only do you have more space to “play” with in getting the message right, but your guests have something to do/occupy them/start conversation once seated, and you eliminate any bottlenecks at the escort card table.
If you did that, your wording could be something like:
Sandstone has been prized by artists for centuries as its soft, smooth texture allows it to be easily shaped into ornate temples, churches and works of art. This sandstone was mined near Lake Powell, UT, the site where Jane and Joe were engaged and began shaping their future together with the same love and care as those generations of artisans. Jane and Joe hope that you will accept this sandstone token as a rememberance of this special day.
Or something like that 🙂

@CactusFlower: How about something like:
Over a year ago we decided to share our lives & today is the first day of the rest of our life together. Please take your personal piece of sandstone as a reminder of your part in our history and as a symbol of our special day as a stepping stone in our lives.
~Locate your name on a sandstone & find your table number on the reverse.~

@fishbone I like how your suggestion tells a story of the stones & really combines it with our story!
@indibee I love your suggestion, especially the part about “stepping stone”. This is what I was going for!
Thank you both so much! This is a great help & you are better wordsmiths than I will ever be! Our escort table will be on display during cocktail hour so it will give people something to look at/talk about while cocktailing.
