I looooove the Scarlett Johansson hair. It would look great with your dress...I don't think it would look costume-y.
I absolutely love your dress. In terms of the hairstyles, I think that the Rachel McAdams hairstyle would look great, not cartoonish at all, but is that going to be hard to do, if your hair is very curly? Also, do you have bangs? Partly why I think it looks so great is her bangs.
Is it possible to try the Scarlett Johannsen look and see how it looks? I think it's beautiful and might work better with your hair type, but I can understand your concern about it looking like a costume. But I think a style like that, sort of curly and sideswept, is (obviously) more modern than the Elizabeth Taylor hairstyle.
I'd go with the vintage hairstyle. The dress is distinctly vintage so I think you need a hairstyle to complement it. The Rachel McAdams and Heidi Klum hairstyles won't do your dress justice.
Thanks chocolatemalt! Yeah, my hair straightens well so I should be fine with the hair but NO I don't have bangs ("fringe" in Aus!) at the moment and I agree, the bangs make the style! I have had them before but it's been thicker and blunter than that (I have very thick hair and lots of it!). I'd be happy to try em though! I also thought I could try it with a side swept fringe, which I do quite reguarly. I also like the height of the Rachel McAdams. Ah, decisions, decisions!!
I love your dress!! I definitely think something more like the vintage styles would compliment it really well.
Love your dress, and love the Scarlett hairstlye. I think you will just look crazy stunning with that combo.
dont try a fringe now if the wedding is merely 4 months away. stick to a style that is better suited for your length and texture. a vintage sideswept would look stunning!
I love the last picture with that actress in it who's after Elizabeth Taylor. It takes what you like and updates it a little. What are you wearing with it?
Thanks guys - the dress I'm wearing is pictured and I'm planning on wearing a short, sheer veil with a cut edge. It'll be between elbow and shoulder length.
Thanks so much for the help bees! I'm thinking I'll go with the Scarlett Johansson hair, possibly with a clip like this.

and a short veil like this

Thanks for the advice! Tricky decision made easy!

Okay, with every other decision to do with the wedding I've been very decisive and have just made the decision and stuck with it. Now I'm hitting a snag. I have NO idea what to do with my hair for the wedding!
My dress is a 50's inspired tea length dress. I plan on wearing a short (between shoulder and elbow length rather sheer veil). My hair is very curly and just below my shoulders.
Originally I wanted to wear my hair up, with a headband but I've REALLY struggled to find a plain ivory headband that I like. I found these pictures - imagination is required to see some of them with an updo. I'd go with something super simple at the back.
Then I was thinking maybe I should go with something like this, which I just LOVE but I'm worried I might look a bit like I've come from a costume party....
I'm just a little concerned that if I go too vintage I'm gonna look like I've come from a costume shop... but I do really love the look. Anyway one last picture (sorry about sizing - I'm not so good with the pictures!) of my dress so you know what I'm working with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
