I’m having a real dilemma. I purchased two wedding dresses and now I need to choose between them.
The first one I purchased is the Maggie Sottero Adelaide. I never would have picked it out myself–the sales lady made me try it on. It looked amazing on my body, so I ended up purchasing it. It really wasn’t the style I wanted at all, and so I found myself having dress regret for months. Finally in May, I decided to purchase another dress–the Mori Lee Voyage 6778 (we’re having a destination wedding). I love the delicate, beautiful details of this dress and it’s much more my taste. The dress finally came in and I went to go try it on. I loved it in the store, but now that I am looking at pictures of me it in it and comparing them to pictures of the other dress, I realize the other one is so much more figure flattering. The Mori Lee one still needs to be altered–it’s about two sizes too big in the waist area as they had to order a larger size to fit my chest, so that might make it look a little bit better, but I’m not sure how much.
What do you all think? Which dress should i go with?
Here’s a side by side comparison of the two dresses. The one on the left is the new dress, the Mori Lee Voyage. The one on the right is the original dress I bought, the Maggie Sottero Adelaide. I am the same exact weight in both pictures, so it’s the dress shape that’s causing my body to look so different.
Another detail I forgot to mention–I absolutely hate the back of the Maggie Sottero. It’s a corset back (which is really why the front looks so amazing), and I just hate the way it looks. The back of the Mori Lee dress, on the other hand, is gorgeous. Here’s a pic:
I think I know which way I am leaning, but it would help to get some input. Thank you!!

I voted for the Mori Lee. I love the back of it and I think that once it’s altered to fit your waist properly it will be just as figure flattering as the Maggie Sottero.

I also voted for the Mori Lee. The back is gorgeous and it sounds like you feel better in it.

The mori lee is freakin gorgeous!

kag317: I voted maggie, it looks better on you. But, it might be different with the mori lee is altered. It sounds like you like the Mori much better, so I think you should go with that one… even though I voted Maggie.. haha.

winterwoodlandbride15: See, this is why i’m so conflicted! Haha. I like the style of the Mori Lee dress better, but I like the way the Maggie makes me look better. I really want people to say “wow!” when they see me in my dress, and the Mori Lee dress doesn’t do that for me.

I think you have a great figure and the one on the right shows it off far better than the one on the left. I showed it to my fiance and he agreed. The on on the left is pretty but the higher waist and extra fabric almost looks like a really beautiful maternity dress. But maybe that would change with alterations.

kag317: Agreed, there is no ‘wow’ right now. Sorry that sounds harsh. But, it will be better when you get it altered. I’m just one of those people that can’t visualize the alterations… I need to see it.
The thing that got me is the corset back… you hate it! Don’t wear that dress… even though you look rockin in it, there’s something better! You’ll regret it.

As much as I love the mori lee dress, I think the Maggie is much more flattering on your shape. I would have to see the mori lee fitted more right to know. Can you take the two dress to a steam stress and have her pin the mori lee on you to mimick what the altered look will be? This may give you more insight.

Another thought, is there enough room on the Maggie to take out the corset and put in a zipper?

kag317: I think the Mori Lee dress is amazing, and looks fantastic on you. I understand that the corset from the Maggie Sottero gives you a slightly more flattering fit, but I think the Mori Lee will be a lot closer to that once it is adjusted (and possibly with the right underwear/shapewear if you want – amazing how that stuff can get our curves in just the right places!).
From what you’ve written, I genuinely think you will regret it if you wear the Maggie just because it is more flattering. Comparing pictures taken straight on in a bridal shop is not representative of how people will be seeing you on the day. You want to wear something that represents you and your style, and that makes you feel like your most beautiful self. You don’t want to look back on photos and say ‘damn, my stomach looked mighty flat and amazing in that dress, but oh god isn’t that corset ugly?’.
Once your dress is altered for you and you are done up with your hair, makeup, and accessories, you won’t give a second thought to another dress that’s nowhere to be seen that might have been a smidgen more flattering.
Hope you’re able to decide. You are going to look amazing, no matter what!

I voted for the Mori Lee. It’s the kind of dress that needs to be fitted perfectly to really work, and you can tell just by looking at it that it’s too big around the waist.
Also, if everyone just picked the most flattering dress and didn’t take anything else into consideration, everyone would choose corseted and ruched a-lines and wedding fashion would be even more limited than it already is.
The weather, the venue, your own sense of style and what you like – these are all important factors, and I think it’s pretty obvious where your preferences lie.

I looove the neckline and back of the Mori Lee! I think that once it is fitted properly, it will be a knockout. The other one is just another strapless ruched a-line dress to me.

Go with what you love! With alterations, the Mori Lee will be perfect!

Pick the dress you love because it is your style And what you have visioned yourself wearing. Let the seamstress do her majic. Wear the undergarments as my older office mate would say “put those girls in their place”. You have a pretty figure. 🙂 Don’t wear a dress as pretty as it is, only because it flatters your figure but it isn’t quite your style… Wear the dress you love and what reflects who you are. Which is why you bought the second one to begin with, right. :). . The first dress I tried on, I almost bought because it gave me a figure – I’m ” fluffy” – even though it wasn’t my style with that roughing across the belly. but my SF encouraged me to not buy the first dress I found. I’m glad I kept looking. I found something in my style, it actually flattered my figure more than I expected, and the sales associated assures me alterations is awesome And will correct the dress to any adjustments necessary. Trust you gut.
