So, we've been discussing baby names today. We've narrowed it down to a top 3: Isla, Autumn and Norah. I LOVE Norah, but DH doesn't think it flows well with his last name. Tell me what you think. Which name do you like best?

We're also having trouble coming up with middle names. I like Autumn Elizabeth but DH is sort of indifferent to Elizabeth and I like Norah Jane, but he's also not so sure about that one. I have zero ideas for Isla.

So, which is best (I'll add in his last name so you guys can see how it flows).

Isla _____ Butera (it's pronounced Eye-la for those who don't know)
    Autumn (Elizabeth?) Butera
    Norah (Jane) Butera

Disclaimer: Yes, I realize posting his last name is not the best idea... but it's only a last name and not our first names too, so I'm not too worried. Please don't lecture me on the subject.

I love Isla, it sounds very pretty with your last name. Maybe in the spirit of the less common first names with the more common middle names, Isla Anne Butera?

I think everyone's going to end up butchering Isla and pronounce it Is-la like Isla Fisher... but I still think it's gorgeous even mispronounced :)

Not a fan of Autumn, but I do like Norah too.

Honesty, Norah is perfect.  I don't know why, I just feel it is perfect for you, zippy.  I love it with the last name, it is classic and simple but somewhat alternative and beautiful.  I love it.

I love Nora, although I think Isla is really pretty as well.

I think it would be pretty as Isla Rose or Isla Marie.

Isla is really pretty, Norah as well. My personal favourite is Autumn, but that is because it seems so different from any other name lately.

I also think that Isla might be pronounced Is-La  But with that said, nearly everyone pronounces my daughter's name wrong/spells it wrong.  So if you like it, do it!  I like that name.

    1. Isla Olivia Butera 2. Norah Jane Butera  3. Autumn Elizabeth

I really like Autumn Elizabeth, though I might be biased because my middle name is Elizabeth :) And also, I knew a girl named Isla in high school and she was...let's just say no one liked Isla :) Haha.

I really do like the name Autumn, though!

ETA: About the girl Isla I knew, every year on the first day of school/if we had a substitute teacher, they would always call her "Is-la" when they called attendance and it made her SO mad. It's not a huge deal, but just something to think about.

It is rare that I like someone's selections of names so much. My first thought when I see those names is "oh no, Isla!" Isla is unfortunately crazily popular in the UK and there will be lots of other little Islas about her age. I totally love Isla (it is one of my very favourite names) but I would be weary of because of the popularity in the UK Top 100 baby names over the past few years (I am such a geek to pay close attention to such things). Autumn I think is really nice and has lovely connotations. Norah is pretty too, though old-fashioned but I'm not sure it matters for such a classic name. Either way, you can't go wrong, they're all lovely names. :)

ETA: Although, I would add that I think Isla's popularity means it is less likely to be mispronounced (though some people always will).

@VickyAurea: It won't be that big of a deal with it being popular here. We're due to move back to the states when she's 2, so she'll never be in a UK school.

Thanks for your opinions, ladies! Keep em coming.

I like Autumn the best.  :)  I think it's classic and flows well with the last name.

I can almost guarantee most people will read Isla as ees-la or ais-la, especially if you're moving to the US where there's a strong latino population.

I like the names Norah and Isla, but since I'm planning on naming my (future)daughter Isla or Lena - I couldn't vote for it. Hahaha. You can't go wrong with either of those 2 names.

Isla Blake is the name we're going with.

    Thanks for your input guys!

I think it's funny that almost everyone who replied is saying Isla, but Autumn and Norah are both beating it in the poll. People who voted for those 2, why?

I love Autumn Elizabeth. :) I think that because your last name ends with an 'A' that names that don't end with an 'A' sound better. Just my opinion. :)

@zippylef: I voted for Autumn! I love Isla but I thought it was too common for here, though you've clarified now that you're moving home in a couple of years. And Norah I love but because it is old-fashioned Autumn has the edge. Slightly. Particularly because of the strong meaning that fall has to those in the US - it isn't such a big deal here, I'd say. However, I also thought about it a bit more and isn't yours a March baby? Not sure the name Autumn really makes sense, just like Hollys are typically born in December and Summers are typically born in summer. So I'm still a little torn between all three.

Hahaha @VickyAurea: I just had to laugh cos I was like ummmm March IS Autumn what the...? Then realised I was being dumb... In Australia it is Autumn on the 1st March :) But for UK and US it isn't :)

I voted for Isla, it just is a pretty name :) and Isla Leigh or Isla Marie :)

Norah is my second favourite - thou I did start singing Come Away With Me as soon as I read it. :) not a bad thing Norah Jones has a beautiful voice. :)

Also have to agree with PPs it is very rare to actually like all name selections - is it mean to say sometimes I read some and think "what are they thinking" thou I never write that. :) either way you go your daughter will have a gorgeous name :)

Love Isla, also like Norah. Don't care for Autumn (but I know several Autumn's and don't like any of them, so I know that's coloring my thoughts!)

I like the suggestion of Isla Rose. I think it flows so nicely!

@zippylef: My vote is for Norah. I don't really like Autumn/Summer, etc as a name (personal opinion, no offense to any of you gals out there), and Isla I feel would get a whole lot of name confusion as she grows up. I don't think Norah sounds bad or doesn't flow w/ your last name. I like Norah Jane, Norah Lee, or Norah Grace.

@VickyAurea: I am due in March. Honestly, I'd rather not be the cheesy person that name a daughter born in October Autumn or one born in July Summer... It's all a little theme-y to me. We picked Autumn purely because we like the name.

Honestly, my personal vote is for Norah, but I think DH's is for Autumn. I guess I have some convincing to do. lol

I'm not a fan of Isla b/c I think you'll have a lot of issues w/ ppl mispronouncing it.  Norah is getting to be rather popular, but I love it as a name, so my vote goes there.

@skibobrown: I actually looked up Norah on the ssa.gov website and it was #298 when spelled Norah and #159 when spelled Nora. If you take rankings into consideration, Autumn is by far the most popular of the 3. Isla is like... #290 something as well where Autumn is like #80.

I was talking to my mom and her vote was for Norah too. lol
