So I’m looking to propose to my girlfriend in the upcoming month or two and hace been looking at rings lately. I have the diamond picked out that I like at a store already its a nice .95 carat VS2 F color I’m slightly torn on what setting I want to get for it / what will look the best. she wants a plain single shank band with diamonds going down the side. I found a .70 carat toal wieght band here:
what I want to know if you think the 2.25mm thickness of the band is too thick to go with the .95 carat center stone. If any of you ladies or other men that have bought your finace a ring have any pictures of comparable specs that you could post, it would be more than appreciated! I just want to buy this ring already!!!!
Another setting I was looking at is this (smaller total carat weight, no thickness specs though), I’m also not the biggest fan of the head (prongs) look too unsecure to me:

@Jreynolds004: is there a female in her life (sister, friend, cousin, mom) that you can ask what her preference would be. It’s really a personal one. The first one looks nice.
Something like this is really pretty too and isn’t as thick near the diamond. http://www.since1910.com/us3060-pave-cathedral-diamond-engagement-ring-with-milgrain

I know what she likes for the most part to begin with (diamond band no cathedral, prong set, no split shanks – just a normal band) i was actually able to find one in between the two from the same dealer so I think I’m going with that. Thanks for your help foxy.

@Jreynolds004: Welcome to the bee! That ring looks beautiful! My ring is a 1.5 mm with a slightly larger stone. Let me see if I can find a picture of what yours would look like. Do you know what size her finger is?

@Jreynolds004: This isn’t the style ring you want, but it is the right thickness. If you go through the hand pictures on the bottom, you can see what the ring will look like on her hand (they put a 1 ct diamond in it, so it is the right proportion).
For me, that setting would be too thick. I preferred a 1.5-1.8mm setting because I also plan to wear a wedding ring. Everyone is different though. Some people love thicker bands. I think that band would not be too thick for most people. It is beautiful!

Apparently mines about 2.7mm for the band, and my diamond is 0.9 so I think you should be fine with a thicker setting 🙂

1) What is her ring size?
2) Do you know the cut grade of the diamond?
3) Do you know how many mm the diamond measures?
4) Does she have a pinterest you looked at/could show us?

Here is my engagement ring that close to your spec. Mine is 1.02, F, VS2. I don’t know the exact measurement of the band but it should be around 2 to 2.5mm because my wedding band is 2.5mm

I havent been able to get on in check in a couple of days but wow, thanks for all of the responses!! I’m actually going to look at some stones and rings this weekend in NY, I have a meeting set up with a dealer. I’ve changed what I’m looking for in a diamond to boost the cut, HCA, and lighting characteristics (more hearts and arrows) as opposed to a larger size. The stone is a .90 carat, F color, VS2, hearts and arrows, Excellent cut. The two rings are 2.20mm diamond prong set band w/ .7 carat total weight with making it around 3/4ths of the band… while the other is around (1.8m?) with about .25 ctw similar design. As for her finger its a 5.75, but her fingers are on the longer side. I wanted a .5 ctw band but those are what he has in stock. If I dont like the thickness / look of bands with the stone I may opt for a custom made ring in between. I initially was worried that the .70 would wash out the size of the solitaire. Here is a link to that band. (the other isnt listed on his site):

I think the last link you posted will be beautiful with the stone and especially on her long fingers! I wouldn’t go too thin on her fingers because you want it to stand out but not overwhelm so I think the setting you’ve chosen will be perfect – beautiful choice!

@Jreynolds004: I hope this might be helpful to you. My stone is a 0.90 F VS2 Tripple Excellent cut by GIA. I have a size 7 finger. Most of the time I think my stone looks pretty big and I have bigger fingers than your girlfriend so it should look much bigger on her. My band is 2mm
